05 RL 300HP only 6.7Sec from 0-60 ???
saw this one on C&D website.. Kind of disappointed. CandD review
Their TSX comparision said TSX is 7.5 Sec which is 0.8 sec behind RL with 100hp less horse power. I know RL weights more, but I thought it may push to high 5 sec. with almost 2 times the price of TSX...

Tne New E350 coming out now and new BMW engine will change it, and RL is comparing with 220hp+ MB/BMW now with 300hp.
MB E350------------------
- Acceleration from 0 -100 km/h: The E 350 Saloon takes 6.9 seconds to reach 100 km/h from standstill, which is 0.8 seconds faster than its predecessor. The acceleration time for the Estate is 1.4 seconds shorter than for its predecessor, at 7.1 seconds.
- Flexibility: The new E 350 Saloon absolves an intermediate sprint from 60 to 120 km/h in 6.9 seconds, and is therefore 1.7 faster than the E 320. The Estate takes 7.2 seconds, which is 2.2 seconds less than the preceding model.
- Maximum speed: The maximum speed of the Saloon is increased from 245 to 250 km/h, and that of the Estate from 233 to 250 km/h (electronically limited).
- Fuel consumption: Despite the 21 percent higher output of the new V6 engine, the fuel consumption of the Saloon is reduced by 0.2 to 9.7 litres per 100 kilometres compared to the E 320 (NEDC combined consumption). For the Estate the fuel saving is 0.7 litres per 100 kilometres.
E 350
Cylinder arrangement V6
Valves per cylinder 4
Displacement 3498 cc
Compression ratio 10.7 : 1
Output 200 kW/272 hp at 6000 rpm
Max. torque 350 Nm at 2400-5000 rpm
0-100 km/h 6.9 s (7.1 s)
Maximum speed 250 km/h*
NEDC combined consumption 9.7 l/100 km (9.9 l/100 km)
*Electronically limited

The new 3 litre straight six-cylinder engine delivers outstanding performance combined with a signature engine sound. With an output of 190 kW (258 bhp) at 6,600 rpm, it propels the BMW 630i from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.5 seconds, while Valvetronic, the fully variable valve regulation system, ensures a smooth performance along with efficient fuel consumption. The engine's three-stage variable intake manifold allows large amounts of torque to be delivered at low revs. Not every passion can claim to have such a solid basis.

MB introduces new 3.5 liter engine that still is only able to motivate the lighter, RWD E350 to 62mph in 6.9 seconds, which is right around where the RL is at.
BMW also introduces a new 3.0 liter straight six that can move the lighter 6-series to 62mph in 6.5 seconds, which when applied to the 5-series, should be about 6.7 seconds to 60mph, which is also right around where the RL is at.
What in the world are you complaining about? The RL is just as quick as its competition, yet weighs significantly more and packs AWD. On top of that, the competitiors, when spec'ed out to match the RL, cost anywhere from $3k to $8k more than the RL.

...but you've gotta love having an E500/E55 and 545Li/M5 as a trump card though.

The mickey mouse auto writers out there like auto123 and others need to get their facts straight. Acura never stated the ASpec pkg can or could compete with the likes of 545I or an E55.

I know Honda/Acura's official stance (zag) has always been contrary to its primary Lexus & Infiniti competition (zig). Acura maybe targeting other six cylinder models for their flagship but the buying public tends to have other ideas. (Heck. Toyota targeted the sub-21 y/o market for their Scion line but the avg Scion buyer is 40 y/o plus; so much for premarket product targeting.)
But, we'll see how public perception of all three contribute to sales (or lack thereof). So far, the RL hasnt shown me any reason why to NOT consider the upcoming Infiniti M or Lexus GS OR any good reason to not select a TL.
And I'm sorry but a low production sport package should sport (pun?) some more hp/tq or a reduced curb weight in order to create a bit more spirited acceleration.
All told, the spirit of the Legend wont be put to rest with the current gen.

The RL, much like the underpowered TSX and FWD TL isn't for everybody and thats fine, thats why we have choices. But lets remember that TSX and TL sales are well above everyone's expectations including Acura's so obviously the public disagrees with alot of the skeptical so called automtive professionals like these mag writers.
As for A-Spec, again its an option, if you think its lame (I agree) don't buy it. There may be some people out there that feel its worth while.
I'm willing to bet RL sales much like TSX/TL sales will also be above everyone expectations. Only time will tell.

If anything, the RL's J35 is pretty impressive in itself as it's reached Nissan V6 level of power output @ 300hp/260lb-ft, although it has to haul around 4,000lbs of pork. So I'm not flaming the entire car. But, I'm just not floored by it's styling and performance.
However, I would be eager to see a DOHC version of this motor though.

That option was only added recently. BMW has always offered an optional "Sport" package (Bigger wheels, stiffer shocks/springs)that DID NOT increase HP at all.
A Spec is more of a handling AND appearance package anyway.

The auto writers shape the perception of the public, just like journalists and new sources always shape the perception of the public. If they don't give correct information, then the public will be misinformed.
As for the TL vs. RL thing, there is a lot of stuff available on the RL that the TL doesn't even offer. Plus, the RL is a larger vehicle than the TL and competes in a different class from the TL (with regards to price). Plus, the RL and TL are intended to target different buyers.
