Has anyone notice that the 04 TL engine while putting out a tad more HP and torque is also doing it at higher RPMS?
The 01 S model I have has 232 @ 3500 while the 04 puts out 238 @ 5000. As far as hourspower, the 04 is at 6200 where the 03 is at 6100.
I am wondering if this was another fix for the tranny issues they saw in the earlier models. One reason I bought the S was that the V6 pumped out torque earlier than many V6s. Most would max torque out at 4500. I am thinking that for most driving where you rarely go above 3000 this change would mean less wear on the tranny.
I'd be willing to bet that a 03 S would be quicker than an 04 tl.

There is more to it than that...
When manufactures list HP and Torque the list the "peak" values, who is to say that the TL does not make 232 @ 3500 and then 238 @5000?

well I can understand that reasoning but I want to see a dyno on the 04. See where the torque curve is... I find it hard to believe they could not give it more umph since a few mods will do that for an older S type. They had to bump up the compression and change the intake.

They bumped up compression right? Doesn't that mean moving the rpm band up more?
the specs say the older S has 260 at 6100 and the 05 has 270 at 6200...
For years they have always said torque is king.. the more you have the earlier you have, the quicker you are... Of course.. all kinds of conditions play into that.

Once you sit in one, the engine won't even matter.....I did today, and holy crap......my jaw dropped.

The '04 has an oem cai (take a look at Nash's response on this thread: http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showt...hreadid=118920). That's probably the only major difference.
Well all things considered with acura service and their power train issues, I think I will pass on acura next time. I have had 3 of them. They detuned the engine for the tranny fix and I feel the 04 is not that impressive max torque of 238 at 5000 where the old one has 232 at 3500. 6 ft pounds and 10 ponies is nothing.
Acura can do better than that. I am sure many wull be impressed. A new car is a new car, but there is much more out there to choose from....

who knows let me break in mine when i get it next week. i will take it out east to the dyno place, and figure out all the correct numbers. its the only way to do it...
I would like to see the results. I have been looking at new cars and one reason I selected a honda product was their performance.
I have been looking at different models and I notice the Honda V6 whether in the TL or Accord has the max torque at 5000 RPMs. Not the low end punch it should have.
That is the highest RPM spec of any manufacturer. I know a high revving engine is great to have, yet as I said I believe that honda cannot make a power train that works very well and lasts 150,000 miles. The nissan 3.5 motor pumps out 255 ft pounds at 4400 and it costs less, does not have as high compression.
It will nice to see the results of the 04 power train. I am tempted to go in another direction after my experience with the tranny issue. That killed the resale of the car. I am sure the tranny I have will probably on last so long like the original one.
