03 corvette " drove it like it was stolen for two days"

My wifes mother is a mgr. at a local bank. she called me to ask if i could look at a car they had to repo, it would not start. So i get thease calls time to time to help with the repos. But this time it was not just a impala or a altima it was a 03 50th anv. vett, auto , anyway she hands me the key, and asks if i could get it started. to make it short it needed a battery. the tage were out and the insp. was out in 04, so i think the car sat.
first impresion :"first 10 min." not that quick from the dig, around 30+ it is a beast. rides like shit.
second impresion: " about 30 min into drive this car is the BALLS, it rides good enough for me, dont want to bring it back.

i drive around for about 1hr. called mom she siad i could drive it for the weekend, just come pick up the insurance card. it is sunday afternoon and i have 2 mustangs, bmw m coupe, and a civic. but got owned by a 87 regal GNX. " one of my boys" in about a 1/4 mile run. I have got to say this is a hell car to drive and even more hell on gas=$. so far i have put about $100 in gas. keep yall informed if anything inturesting happens.

An 03 auto vet is slow as fuck. my friend took an 03 auto vet to the track it ran a 14.0 at 101. not too bad for 350hp, POS auto. however it has amazing low end tq that makes it feel like a monster.

should run 13.5ish, the stock gearing on the auto blows ass, falls out of the power band on shifts

your friend cannot be a good driver at all-and dragging an auto is the easiest thing to do.

Good shit. You do know the auto vette is faster then the manual right? And no balls from a dig? There must have been something wrong. My Trans Am pulled crazy hard off the line when i was stock.

The auto falls on its face between shifts because of the torque management. Have that tuned off and the car will be night and day. I rip through 3rd in my auto trans am.

Could be, some vettes have 2.73, which are terrible, i have 3.23 with a 3.73 12 bolt on the way. The 3.73 gears should drop off 3 tenths in the quarter and put power everywhere in the gears.

Yup, although 3.73 gears are not that bad for highway. They should have changed the final gear on the tranny and went with 3.73 on the rear. Also the manual is great because you can put 4.10's on the rear and be like a full second faster than stock, while retaining decent top speed and rpms at highway speeds.
A few GM techs have also said that GM use to offer 3.42 on the vettes performance and handling package(z51). But GM got rid of the gears because drivers were not able to get traction down low with the higher gears!!???!!

If I remember correctly, automatic 97-04 C5 Vettes come standard with 2.73 gears, with an optional 3.15 performance axle.

The manuals all came with 3.42's.

Z51 package equipped Vette's were all manual, with a different suspension... as close as you can get to a Z06.

The Z06 came with a different transmission altogether (I think the M12 ???) with much more agressive gearing (but I believe the ratio was still 3.42).

Oh and the 2.73 axle on the automatics is not very performant. Many have troubles getting their tires to spin even when brake torquing. And that's with TC/AH (traction control and active handling) off.

Yeah, the Z06 still has 3.42's in it. I swapped out my gears and am running 3.73 and have never looked back since.

Oh, and highway cruising is only different when you get up above 100 mph. Just this past weekend I averaged about 100-110 for a 2 hour trip-with spirited runs to about 140 for several miles. Over the entire trip, I got 25 mpg.

A buddy of mine has a 99 with the removable top. It's a manual, he's done a ton a crap to it but hasn't gone forced induction yet. He has 120k on the car already. Right now it's putting just under 400hp to the wheels (dyno proven). Let me tell, that thing is scarey fast. He let me take my woman out to lunch in it and I was impressed.

I call super mega ultra BS on 120k into the car. Lingenfelter's Twin Tubro vette, with a 427ci short block, stage IV heads, cam, tranny upgrades, full suspension upgrades, interior upgrades, wheels, exterior upgrades, a full twin turbo kit, tuning and more, still doesnt cost more than 100k with the price of a brand new C5. You've either been lied too, or your friend has been ripped off.

READ THIS
MY 98 Trans Am, with Lid, Headers, Off Road Y Pips, Catback and small cam made 432 RWHP untuned!!!!!!!!

I made that power with around 2500 in mods.

Your Boy has been ripped.
