How fast do you think he was going? I say 120mph+ At least!

Man killed in Wantagh Parkway car crash

A speeding driver was killed Saturday on the Wantagh State Parkway when his sports car went off the road and struck a tree, destroying the front end of the convertible, according to New York State Police and a witness.

The crash occurred at 12:01 p.m. when the driver, headed north on the parkway, lost control of a red 2003 Corvette just north of Sunrise Highway, went off the left side of the road, and hit a tree, police said.

The driver was taken by ambulance to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 12:44 p.m. His name has been withheld pending notification of a family member.

Police said witness accounts and the preliminary investigation showed the driver was traveling at an unsafe speed.

Weird, I have relatives who live close by and I've been on that road plenty of times. An uncle of mine up there in NY used to have a Corvette but crashed it going real fast and almost died. At least he got some sense though and doesn't let himself drive fast cars. He drives an XJ8 now

Vetts aren't all that structurally solid they tend to come apart in wrecks quite often.

But then again so do enzo's.

Lots of cars "come apart" when they hit something solid at 100+ mph.

Right .... all those pics were probably accidents at 35 - 55 MPH. They'd probably "come apart" even more if they had any real speed. Right?

Dude do you just follow me around like a sick puppy crying for attention?

Vett's have a tendency to break apart in wrecks as in come apart ,engine compartment from the passenger area. I simply pointed that out, this is common. Not only in vett's but in most light wait sports cars Ferrari's, Lambos elect.

Now if you are just looking to argue find someone eals to antagonize.

I know exactly where that is, and the road is pretty bumpy. Fastest I've ever went there was 90 and it was pretty scary

I don't think tires grip well in January temperatures, plus triple digit speed = accident waiting to happen

Do actually practice being a dick or does it come naturally? Maybe you should let the Super Bowl party favors wear off instead of being an ass.

You made a dumb ass comment and I said so. Now you make the same comment again.

Fast lightweight cars "come apart" in high speed accidents. Gee, thanks for that insightful bit of obscure information.

I am a Dick but that's beside the point ,and i could give 3 shits about the Super Bowl. Now if you would just not address me you could easily go about your business, but its painfully obvious that you some how require my attention and feel some sort of homoerotic attraction to me, and it just tears you up inside that i don't feel the same about you. Now i know its going to be hard but you can just not address me, or you can continue to and ill humor you

For those of you that seem to think the fiberglass body on the Corvette's are utilized as structural members...they're not.

Show me something somewhere that says Corvette's are any less safe than other autos, when crashed at legal speeds.

Why don't you go drive your TSX into a tree at high speeds and see if it looks like that Corvette.

I seriously think you do nothing but just randomly dicking around. Every thread you are subscribed to turns to a mess.

Get the fuck out of here.

They are designed to come apart for the sake of energy absorption and dissipation.

As long as the cabin is intact, there is no way you can question the structural rigidity of the vehicles without an engineering degree or experience in accident re-creation. Those pics of the Vette you posted show the cabin areas intact.

Pics of wrecked Enzos I have seen also show the occupants area intact. The rest of the car fell apart like they were designed to.

.
Its not just those. Any car driven at high rates of speed impacting something solid will do that.
