03 BMW M3 or 05 Infinity G35C???

Hi everyone,
I'm thinking of switching my TSX for a car that's a little more sporty. I stopped on 2 choices which are a 2003 BMW M3 coupe or a 2005 G35 Coupe. I'm not thinking of getting a M3 convertible since it's gonna be my winter beater so both cars will have to be fitted with winter tires eventually.

I'd like to have people's opinion on both cars. I tried both cars and I have to say I prefer the M3 since it's seems more agile and more aggressive. On the other hand I'm worried about BMW reliability possible issues (it's not a new car either). One more thing to consider is that the G35 is brand new and the M3 is used...

One more thing, I'm not considering the G35x... I want a rear wheel drive (it's gonna be fun this winter!!! )

Any comments on the 2 cars? Any opinion would be appreciated.

by the way, I'm located in Quebec, Canada so snow is to be found here for 5 months min. per year...

Thanks ahead

Luc

BMW is a solid car, but you'd expect that from the money you spend.

Had a 2003 G coupe, now have a 2004 G35X...both are a blast to drive, very reliable and fairly reasonably priced. Quality of the infiniti is great, but I think the M3 is tops overall. Really, it's 2 different cars...apples/oranges, etc.

I would take the M, G is great, but felt cramped and the interior is sub-par for a vehicle in that price range.

M3 hands down. G35 is a great car but it is not in the M3's league.

I'd go for the M3. But you can always get an APS Twin turbo kit for the G35C and blow the doors off the M3, if you don't mind killing your warranty in the process.

I know that the M3 is a much more complete car... They are very different cars... The reason why I'm comparing them is because they are in the same price range...

The M3 seems like a better choice for me but my wife prefers the G35 since it's a new car... I wish I could afford a brand new M3 but that would be pushing it since I already have 2 summer cars...

Oh one more thing... I find the gear box lousy on the M3 compared to the TSX... but that's just me.

Those are horrible choices for a winter beater. Both rear wheel drive and even with snow tires, you live up in freakin' Canada where you get much more snow. Maybe you should rethink your choices...

Actually, do you have a car or suv for the wintry days? If so, then I guess these would be good choices.

yer kidding right. For a long time the 3 series dominated but the new g35c w/ 300hp is fun fun car and what you loose in power with the g35 you gain in reliability.

You might regret getting the G35, you won't regret getting the M3. Unless what happened to me happens to you and your "high level german car" completley shits the bed and breaks down every other day. Tough choice.

There was just a giant Z/G35 meet this past weekend (locally)........there were tons of them.

The G35 coupes were all in a line driving down the road (maybe 30, could be more).

For the rest of the day I saw them scattered around, driving around in groups of 2 and 3.

Some were stock, some were modded (wheels, grilles, exhausts, etc).

From this point on, I don't want to see another G35C.

I'm G35C'd out.

haha...that's funny.

Is the M3 CPOed because if it is then I'd get it. I absolutely love the G35c but the M3 is a special kind of car. 2003 is a good year too because it's a later model (as opposed to the 01s that were blowing engines). How many miles on the M?

and I agree that you have your seasons mixed up! Neither of those cars should be considered a winter beater in canadia, makes little to no sense.

The M is a hot car, but other than suspension and exterior mods, there are few performance mods that give a boost in power. My cousin had one and spent so much on exhaust, headers, throttlebody, intake, chip, tune. He made like 11 more hp and lost some tq. Also i know of a supercharger, but it is not reliabel, as some engines are blowing because of such high compression and the addition of the blower. Plus the blower cost almost 10 grand and gives around 40 horses. The G35 has so many more mods and is way more mod friendly. But if it is just for tha car, i'd say go with the M, you wont be dissapointed.

To me, the fact that you can't mod the engine that much is a big plus in my book! Factory reliablility and you know you are getting the most out of it!!

M3.....if you get the 2003 try to get one that's a 2003.5....they have LED tailights if it's worth it to ya:

http://m3.madrussian.net/modelchanges.shtml

Also, remember that the BMW warranty is 50,000 bumper to bumper and 100,000 on the engine, so it may be smart to get an M3 under that 50,000 mark, just in case.

The scheduled maintanence is free up to 50,000 miles to...just in case you weren't aware.

Obviously I've been doing some drooling myself lately...

Beleive me I'd rather drive a M3 in winter than an NSX or a S2000...

And by the way I'm not intending to mod this car...

My goal by the way is to get a M3 with an extended warranty from the dealer...

By the way, driving an M3 with winter tires in the city should not be that bad... It's obvious that if there's a big snow storm, I won't drive... I guess that's what taxis are for...

Cheers

If you're going to be buying the car, I don't know if I'd buy the M3....Expensive to maintain after the warranty is up....

I hear ya. But reliability hasnt been in the favor of this gen M3. So many blown engines, even after the "big fix".

i considered the g35c for like 5 min. then i thought about the m3 for like 1 week and i got it. just went into production today after waiting over a month to get on the schedule. i should have it in less than a month, i cant wait ... i dont know what i'm in for... never driven one....

and thats the cool thing about this car. i dont have to mod it. i'm lazy sometimes and hate spending more money after-the-fact. i just figure i get a car that i could maybe consider leaving alone...

btw, getting any bimmer as a winter car is kinda silly.

bimmers sucks in bad weather...always have been. M3 is much more of a summer, dry road car.
