$35000 soccer mom car. (DODGE GRAND CARAVAN)..w/ dead tranny. HELP

Hey, hey fellow Tl-ers. I need help on finding a transmission recall, warranty information and watever i can (google ain't helping much i'm on it right now).

My problem is, i had to move my mom's car to get my beautifull '99 WWkit Tl outa da garage. So when i drop reverse on the van the car jumps and instantly i knew the tranny was gone. My mom's outside the USA, will be back next week, and she specifically told me "Luis ni toques mi carro porque te acessino" (dont even touch my car or i'll assesinate you). So please help me out on finding info.

Car's info:
2002 Dodge Grand Caravan (3.8L power all (doors, rear hatch) TV from roof -most expensive model-)
62000miles -->its my only problem right now, i sure that up to 50k its cool

let me know if you need more info, i'll be researching.

Thanks a lot guys i'm sure one of you..or many will come thru...its the beauty of this forum, we all help each other and newbs just pick info to help later. (i'm not newb)

*btw my mom's been doing karate for 11years...so have i but i cant even talk back at her! i'll just blame my brother!

Can you describe what you specifically did and what happened? I mean, did you rev the engine and put it into reverse without waiting for the RPMs to go down? Did you just put it into reverse and the car wouldn't move?

nop the engine was idling normally at 600rpm 'cause it was already on for a couple of minutes (couln't find my wallet) and when i put into reverse this happened.

i would never rev and drop into gear since i'm so paranoid about the TL's transmission...which btw is about to go too, and the same way...going forward no problem all smooth even when cold, but reverse just hurts. i still got 2years 24000miles left on the tranny warranty...for the Tl.

Any info on the warranty for the Grand Caravan?

All Chrysler's and Dodges’s from 2002 and on had 7/70 drivetrain warranty, so you’re still covered.

Read this:

Also if you run the van's VIN on Carfax (you need a Carfax account or so someone that has one) and it'll tell you how much time and miles you have left until the warranty runs out.

tranny dead at 60k on a dodge/chrysler van.......how very common.

When I used to sell, the most common car people would bring to trade in......dodge/chrysler minivans.........anything at or near 60K the tranny was about ready to go....anything over 60K and they always had gone through at least one tranny.

heh, check this out. i drop the van today and told the guy what i thought it was, he jump on, goes into reverse, BANG, neutral, drive, BANG, neutral, Reverse, yet another BANG and then says it might not be the transmission, "its probably a sensor"...

and another thing are you sure about the 7/70000 on this Town&Country van because the guy said it was only 2/36000.

thanks for help!

mom's home tomorow...and she doesnt know...yet

If the Town & Country is a 2002 and up then yes it does have 7/70K warranty on the drivetrain. Your Basic (bumper-to-bumper) warranty has expired which is 3/36K. But the tranny problem falls under Drivetrain warranty, which you’re supposed be covered for 7 years or 70,000 miles.

Read this for understanding the different warranties:
http://www.edmunds.com/advice/warran...4/article.html

If that dealer still gives you problem with the warranty claim just try and find another Chrysler dealer.

hmmm i see. The dealer is calling tomorow to tell whats wrong, my mom will be here by then and no T&C...if they say its the tranny and its not covered they got a huge problem coming. Thanks, i love fighting when i know i got the reason.

I dont trust that link too much though, is there someplace else i could verify those numbers?

if she knew about cars she woulnt get mad...when the tranny is gotta go, its gonna go...even though she's really calm, i expect to see her hair turn into snakes and her eyes all black and a fire aura just explode around her!

THANKS!
