Question $3000 for a car.

If you had 3000 cash and you needed a good car but only wanted to spend that or less, what kinda car would you get? Somebody offered me 8k for my CL. I owe 5k to the bank. So figure the car I buy needs to be less than 3k after tax and everything. Whats a good car for that price that wont need too much work?

91-95 Legend sedan (Although if you could find a coupe for that price that would be awesome)
Nissan Maxima or ALtima
Toyota Camry

my dad had a 91 legend coupe LS. loved that car and is pretty damn fast. almost got one as my first car but stumbled across my 3.0CL. if you do get one get an LS it has more things in it and possibly get a 93 or higher in a LS it has the typeII motor which has more power and more ammenities.

I like them, plus they're RWD with an NA 300ZX engine.

Legend... no way. They are great cars but you MUST maintain them and be prepared for a few big ticket items.

Accord or Camry would be my choice. Reasonable amount of room, still good on gas and SAFE (as opposed to older Civics and Corollas)

90-93 honda accord- cheap, reliable, and a nice style
91+ legend- a little more pricey, but more sporty
94 civic hatchback

basic american cars back in the day really sucked, but if i had a little more than 3 grand i would buy a 87+ v8 camaro and pimp it out, but its not that reliable

Most likely looking along the lines of accord/camry because I need the space. I was even thinking of a 99 golf 4 door. Something where I can actually use the back seats. Legend sounds good, but I know any Legend out there is way over 100k miles I dont need the headache. As for American cars, I wouldnt buy a used one. I cant even really think on an american car I would buy used, never owned one.

My friend just bought his mom a 97 Chevy Malibu for $2500 with 50,000 miles on it. But really for 3k I think a high mileage Maxima or a 94 Civic EX you can get.

Your not going to get anything really decent for only $3K factor out tag & tax, & your at what $2200-$2500. Whatever you do find will have high miles, & be in bad shape. You can plug it in on Ebay's search function see what's around. You can throw relibilty out the window. I have seen Honda's be just a bad as a ford & vice versa. Just depends on how the car was taken care of.

i suggest Elantra or Sonata. Just traded my 96K Elantra for a Mazda 3. No problem at all.

Check this out TSX and Mazda 3

I like that Mazda 3. I was thinking of leasing one for now.

Basically my problem is Im paying 260/mo for an 8 year old CL and I still have 3 years to go. Somebody offering me 8k is not going to happen again. For less money I can lease something newer until I decide to buy something.

Dealer mentioned around $220 and $2000 down for my MZ3. I never ask further since i travel a lot and lease is never a good idea.

Leasing would be good bacause I am 4 miles from work and do not usually travel far on weekends, so this was something we were considering. As long as I get at least a 10,000 mile/yr allowance, should be ok. I think I only put on 8-9k miles last year on my CL.
