Could someone tell me what the sales tax rate is for a car registered in city of Chicago? Thanks a lot for the help.

The sales tax in Chicago is 8.75% and sales tax is the same for cars so that's the rate.

Thanks for the info. What confused me was that the tax rate appeared to be 8% according to this table (even though the tax rate on general merchandise in Chicago is 8.75%):

But there's apparently a separate use tax for Cook County of 0.75% (as well as a separate county tax of $15:

No matter how you add it up, we get screwed.
