Hey thanks, nokiaman. So far, that's my favorite also. It really shows off the 70-200 f/2.8. I switched to my walk-around for most of the non-wildlife shots, and I'm once again disappointed in the 17-85. It does ok, but it's never spectacular.

Nice pics! Saw them up on flickr earlier. I want to go there so bad, but I'm sure it won't happen for quite some time.
Just curious. Was your plane delayed because of the wind or are you stuck by default?

Just razzing ya, sorry to hear about the delayed. Hell I haven't anything with the horse show pictures I took 4 months ago, I forgot about them had them in a hidden folder. Plus I have some from this past weekend.

I'm stuck here because the airport personnel in Bozeman is incompetent, not because of weather. The flight information board at the airport that updates flight information hadn't been updated since the day before. Seriously. So when it said our flight was delayed, they meant yesterday's flight was delayed. Ours actually departed a couple of minutes early. So, naturally, we missed it. We were supposed to go through Chicago & be home tonight, but a flight out of Denver tomorrow morning was the best they could do. That's the oh-so-concise version.
As I re-read this, I realize I'm pretty much just bitching. The tour was still great, and I've got plenty more photos to sort through, although I think that one of the buffalo will remain my favorite. Also, the skiing kicked ass.

I hope you were enclosed when you snagged that first shot. Otherwise I can't help but thinking bison vs. you = you lose . I'm looking forward to seeing the rest. Good luck getting home.

Great shots and sounds like a great trip - aside from the getting home part.
I agree on the buffalo/bison/huge beast shot being the best. I'd also like to see a tighter crop of the head - maybe from horns to beard.

That bison was actually standing right across my snowmobile from me out in the open on the road. We were surrounded by 15 or so on all sides, and they were coming closer to investigate. The smarter ones in the group were getting very nervous, while I just kept shooting. Figured if I was going to get maimed I might as well have it documented.
Also, I was incorrect, that shot was apparently taken with my 17-85 I didn't realize I had already switched lenses at that point. Huh.
Anyway, thanks guys, it was a very interesting trip. 10 fun people in a beautiful ski-in/ski-out home, fireplace, quality hot tub time, my first game of beer pong, deep powder, good shooting. I had a fantastic time.
Here's your crop Moe.

And next time, you probably shouldn't throw snowballs at them.

My dad got chased by a buffalo when we were there (I was young, about 8). He stopped the car and went down into the field to take a pic, but got too close and the beast started snorting and he charged at my dad. He ran up the hill as fast as he could, slipping on the way up. All the while, my little sister was plastered to the window screaming, "Dadddyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!" We still laugh about it, but man it was freakin scary at the time.

A Bald Eagle snacking on a mallard. I was pretty far away, so some quality is lost, but I still thought it was cool.

If you want bald eagles go to SE Alaska. They're all over the place. I stopped counting at 20 on the first day I was there. Granted most of those were hanging around the harbors. Even in the wild though, bald eagles are about as common up there as it would be to see deer in our Chicago area forest preserves.
