What video editing software?

I've been having quiet the problem uploading some of my clips from my sony camera (mini dv tape) onto my computer.

I've tried Adobe Premier CS3, but my computer won't handle it.
I've tried Cyberling Power Director and my computer seems to freeze everytime I try to capture and upload it.

I know I don't have an extremely powerful computer, but it's not old at all.

Do you guys have any recommendations of what you personally use to upload your videos with a system resource friendly software?

Thanks..

I use Adobe Premier CS2 on my machine, even before its mid-life upgrades CS2 ran perfectly.

Before specs:
AMD 3700 (not dual core)
1gb RAM
574gb HDD (1 raptor and 1 500gb data drive)
6600GT VC

After Specs:
AMD 4200 X2
3gb RAM
1.5tb HDD (1 raptor 3 500gb data drives)
7600GT VC (not really an upgrade, but replacing a defective video card.)

What are the specs on your machine? Is upgrading it in the budget?

Unless you're really putting together a real movie, go backwards a little. You can use Premier Elements or Pinnacle, they have about four different versions of their latest software, it justs depending on how you want to spend or want.
