Useful camera features?

In this age of low-camera creativity,
What features have you seen on cameras that are pretty useful,
and would like to see on future cameras? Most stuff is gimmicky.

Also Never mind the 'more of' mentality (more Megapixels, bigger lcds, more signal/noise (aka less noise). That's boring.

To kick off the thread:
Auto zoom on the focus point, so you can quickly focus-check. SD800 has this. I want a quick way too 100% zoom in on the pic, actually - don't think anyone has that.

Divx movie compression! Why is Casio the only one compressing their movies?!?!? It saves a ton of memory card space.

Casio's movie mode has a wicked buffering mode where it continuously loops 3 seconds of recording buffer. So you can hit record and not 'miss the moment' - (unless you have a 3 second reaction time).

I love the swivel mechanism of the Coolpix 4500 (and other Nikons - Canon has a similar (but not quite as effective) thing going on with swivel LCD's on some models). Great for work (you can take pics while looking down at the camera - it appears as if you are reviewing pics) It's also great because you can lay the camera flat on the ground and get some cool angle shots.

I think the main thing my 20D is missing is an ISO display in the VF. It's a pain not being able to easily change on the fly without looking away.

For smaller cams, I agree with srika. I love the swivel LCD feature on my A95. Great for ground level shots.

yea,I also wish my canon had an auto ISO feature kinda like nikon with a maximum ISO/maximum shutter speed bracketing. But even the Nikon one doesn't work perfectly.

what do you mean by auto zoom on the focus point

and yea it would be nice to have compression when recording videos, but i like the way it is now for my canon cause w/ compression you lose some IQ

I don't think your typical person would notice IQ difference with low compression, although they'd certainly notice the space increase. Same reason no camera in recent memory allows you to save as an uncompressed TIFF. The files are (almost) pointlessly huge.

The Casio's movie shooting ability, for a camera, was dazzling.

As far as what Auto zoom on the focus point goes, here's a quick picture I took:

The white square is the focus point selected. The orange box is the portion enlarged i the lower right box. So you can do a quick focus check at the focus point. If you shoot a 'blurred background' pic, it wastes time for you to scroll around till you find the portions of the pic that you intended to focus.

It should be automatic, so you can quickly see that the intended point of focus is in focus. (And you can tell that my cheap officemax shelf can't handle the weight of books)

I've mentioned my wants in other past threads. But since this one is a dedicated wish list thread, my biggest desires would be:

A) ISO alsways displayed in the viewfinder (or ability to do so)

B) Dedicated set of up/down buttons for ISO

C) (Canon-specific) ability to put mirror lockup on a dedicated button a.k.a "The Reichmann"

D) Canon's eye controlled focus worked fine for me. Bring it back.
