Thinking about trading the 40D for a D300

I was talking to a local photog that has wants to switch over to Canon. The offer right now is

my 40D + Grip + Sigma 30mm 1.4 for his D300 + Grip

We both have all the original boxes and paperwork.

Milage on both cameras are below 20K clicks. To me right now the trade is slightly in my favor, I've always loved Nikons IMO. The ISO performance is perfect for what I shoot, my only beef is the cost of glass for Nikon. I only have 2 Canon mount lenses since I've already sold most of my glass so the transition won't be hard.

Should I hold off some more on the D300 trade? I have a feeling when that D700 lands, people will be wanting to upgrade to FF and there will be more D300's up for grabs. Though I would love FF, I can't afford it.

Should I do the trade?

Nikon glass expensive? Yep! Nikon FX glass? Expensive x10! Yeah, the D700 will work with DX lenses, but it crops the sensor. Why have the FX sensor if you're just going to use DX lenses?

Go for the D300. Come to the dark side. The force is powerful here.

I have to say the 40d is a nice camera, but i still like my d300 over my friends 40d.

At the time i'd say the 40d is great, but i took a deeper plung into cost for the d300.
Play around with it if you can.

Its really not that necessary to upgrade.

My upgrade was from a rebel xti (stolen) - nikon d80- nikon d300.

this is why I never bought any DX glass. I just knew one day I'd go full frame.

Nikon glass is well worth the money IMO.
