This steam locomotive is owned by the City of Portland and through the weekend was on a fund-raiser Christmas train. Unfortunately the train is currently stranded at Oaks Park due to a broken switch. It will be there until Tuesday so I took advantage of the lack of crowds to shoot some of these night shots. I welcome feedback, both positive and negative. Enjoy!

These pictures were taken with a Canon PowerShot SD790-IS on varying long-shutter times.

The locomotive adamantly refused to be photographed in color which is why most of these images are in black and white. Here are the only two decent color ones.

Wow, cool and I dig the B+W!

Any way to redo #1 w/o the power lines on the right?

My biggest criticism is that you should have torn the fence down.

Nice work and +1 for digging the B&W treatment.

Great pics. I'll show these to my son who is nuts about these locomotives (what kid isn't).

I'm still amazed that a mass of that size and weight is moved with steam. I can just picture the initial marketing that took place and the pitch from the designers.

Designers - Yes, it's going to weigh five hundredmillionthousand tons.

Customer - And it's going to move under what kind of power?

Desingers - We're gonna boil some water and use the steam.

I agree, I can live w/ the power lines, but that fence needs to go. I like that these were b&w because it gives the feel of retro. Good photos

Nice. about the B&W treatment (and unfortunately about the fence, too).
