Replacing lens for Canon Powershot S410
What's up everybody. I was wondering if any of you know or can estimate how much replacing the lens on my Canon Powershot S410 will cost me? I want to sell it and upgrade to either the Powershot S500 or S550. Back to repairin my camera, I believe its just the front lens that's cracked but not sure. When I take pics usin the lcd screen, you can't notice the cracked lens. But when you use the viewfinder, you notice a crack in the lower right part of the lens. Any feedback would be appreciative. I contacted the dudes at Canon, but they quoted me a high price. So if you guys know of any mom n pop stores/camera retailers that can fix it, spread the good word.

You are better off just buying a new camera.

Well, the viewfinder doesn't use the main lens, so it's just your viewfinder that's cracked. Your cam should still be able to take pics, unless something else got damaged.

I just reread it. Does the crack show up on the pictures themselves?

Naw. The pictures come out perfect as if the lens never cracked. It's only when you use the viewfinder that you notice the crack in the lower right corner. I had dropped the camera in Japan trying to zoom in on a temple, and so the lens being extended took the blunt of the force.

Do you see the circle above and to the left of the main lens? That's the lens for the viewfinder. Something is broken in there, but it won't affect the image your sensor sees. Just use the LCD to compose your shots. To repair the viewfinder would be more than what the camera's worth.

Its your viewfinder that is cracked, and the viewfinder is a different optical system then your lens.
Seriously, who uses the viewfinder on the small cameras anyway?
They are never even accurate.

Wow, the viewfinder is more expensive to replace? Fockin eh. Since it still takes great pictures, should I keep it around or just pawn it off on ebay or craigslist? If I do sell it, how much can I expect to get back?
Thanks to srika and everyone else at acurazine, I'll keep an eye out for the SD550. Acurazine for life! Even if I do drive a p.o.s. 99 Jetta.
