Protective cover for LCD?

Protective cover for LCD?

Just wondering if you could use the same thing you would use for a PDA screen on the LCD on the back of a digital camera, I've got a bunch of them, and I'm sure my screen could use a little protection since I carry it in my pocket a good amount of the time.

Yep.
I've put protective film over the swivel screen on my P&S. I just went for the $cheapest$ film I could find, regardless of what piece of electronics it was marketed for.

There is no reason you can't use the LCD protector.
However, I suspect it really won't do any good.
Any LCD 'dings' either have zero effect (they tend to be surprisingly strong, not unlike cell phones), or surprisingly weak in which case the entire LCD cracks. I don't see a piece of film helping the latter.

I put it on simply because the camera was an expensive purchase and I wanted to do as much as I could to 'protect' it. However, the main reason I decided to throw on the film was cuz I was getting annoying fingerprints all over the screen from touching it or grabbing the screen to make it swivel. The film helps prevent this and now the screen always appears clean and free of oils.

You'll just love D-SLR land if you ever make "the switch." If you think fingerprints are a hassle to deal with, try noseprints.

I've done 2 cameras with the pda screen protector film. No real ill effects on the display image. Go for it...if you don't like it you can always remove it.

Now, now. I'm Jewish -- I know all about noseprints!

I will definitely be getting a DSLR at some point in the next few years (when prices go down and I can afford something I will be happy with). But for now, I am loving my SLRs.

Life time replacements. I got it on my pentex wpi (took it up waterfalls at ochorios), 20d, and ipod nano. easy to apply and really strong.

They've got ones that are more than just a thin film, if that's what you'd like. I have their protector on my 350D, and wouldn't trade it for the world. It won't scratch, cleans up easy, and priced better than any of the thin film ones out there!

Ronin thanks for the book suggestion. I just ordered it off Amazon. I'm also looking into the 50mm but need to wait until I have some more money.

Also, the daproducts.com covers looks good and I just ordered one. The website and name of the company doesn't exactly strike me as being very professional or like it sells a quality product but if Ronin says its good, it seems like the best bet between a full on added piece of plastic and a thin film.

The daproducts.com site and name is pretty lame, I agree, but the proof is in the pudding, know what I mean? That LCD protector has saved my bacon a few times - I had my tripod slung on my shoulder with the insert in it, and my camera around my neck, and the mounting screw smacked squarely into the LCD screen. The protector wasn't even scratched. That would have been a $400+ repair...it's definitely pretty thick, but worth every penny. and doesn't affect the clarity of the screen or block anything (except the screened canon logo...oh god no not that!)

And when you get that thing...be sure to follow the instructions to a T. I figured a shortcut was in order...but ended up not placing it the way I wanted. Luckily they include extra adhesive. Also, if you ever need to take the thing off, it does come off relatively easy for how well it's stuck on there - slide a credit card or something like a plastic scraper under the edge, and it just pops off.

Quite the good product.
