...and now I have a Velbo CX-690 tripod (cheap-0).
it allowed me to take this shot, though! my first worthwhile photo from my first shoot with a tripd. Ever.

I'm really hoping I like the lens, I'm a bit concerned by the limited zoom range but am hoping the indoor low-light portrait abilities make up for it.

I think you will like the 430EX a lot better than the built-in flash.

If image quality is your thing than the 17-55 is an excellent option in zoom lenses. It's tack sharp with great color and contrast. I'm predicting you'll love it.

i tried out that lens w/ a 40D at a friend's bday party a couple weeks ago.... it was doing a LOT of hunting... I kinda didn't like it. I then slapped a 85mm 1.8 on it and that lens was spectacular. hope the 17-55 was a dud.

exactly how unkosher is it to use this backpack with a Canon outfit?

Looks like a nice bag, good price. But you'll get hosed about it. Maybe you'll be able to remove the name plate.

I got the bag based on the pic above. But in reality, there is no way all that equipment will fit in the bag.

The idea is to match the flash temp to the lighting temp, and choose an appropriate white balance. This makes the flash appear as an ambient light source in your final picture and is much less obvious than a bright white flash in a warmly-lit room.

Overall, the green omnibounce will give you a better match in fluorescents though.

For the green one, this is what BH has to say:
"can be used to correct for fluorescent lighting in conjunction with an FLD or 30M filter on the camera lens"

Thought I'd just put a "Ghost" post and just post my Nikon stuff again.
Because I know all you Canon fans will just look at it and say, oh it's just a Nikon and keep going your ways
Nothing's really changed much,
Tamrac Bag (Getting a bit small actually, should've invested in a bigger bag)
Tokina 12-24mm Super Wide Angle Lens
Flash Diffuser
Nikon 18-70mm Kit Lens
Nikon D70s
Nikon Speedlight SB-600
The D70s is actually becoming quite outdated and I'm getting less interested in shooting with it. I'm seriously soon considering upgrading to a D200 or possibly even a D300.
Also, I have a new Fisheye Lens coming, and a fisheye toy (impulse buy), and maybe interested in investing in a 70-200mm lens.
