Paris Partie Deux

Just got back yesterday afternoon from a quick trip to Paris.
Was there just over 72 hours but still had a lot of fun. Was on spring break and wanted a quick getaway, so Paris it was. Stayed in a hostel in Montmartre which wasn't bad at all. There wasn't a whole lot that I was dying to see that I didn't see when I went last year. Just moseyed around.

Got my hands on a the 10.5mm DX fisheye to take with me there which was a lot of fun to play with.

Anyway, heres some of my favorites. Got more on flickr. Have most of the ones I'm gonna post there up already.

Didn't realize until I used it how close you can/have to get to objects with a fisheye for certain "looks". Here, the lens was probably only a couple inches from that particular padlock.

Obligatory Eiffel pics...

Catacombs. This was a lot of fun.

Modern art museum (Centre Pompidou)

I thought this was really cool...here's what the plaque said next to this piece:
"Zilvinas Kempinas experiments with the possibilities of movement in his sculptures, which are characterized by the frequent use of an unexpected, inexpensive material which will soon be obsolete: magnetic audio or videotapes. He used the material because of its supple, light, shiny-aspect, but also because of the fragility of the sound or image memory it contains. The artist never points to the content of the tapes used; he is concerned with the relationship of the sculpture to the viewer and the exhibition space. The fluttering, the hypnotic sounds, the reflections and the play of shadows all seem to be governed by invisible forces, offering s a poetic, physical experience."

Essentially there was a fan blowing straight down into this depressed "box", causing these two film rings to dance around like nuts.

One day I want to go back when everything is in full bloom there. Went here in March, and January last year so nothing was "alive". That'd be fun.

One day....

Thanks walshy.

I had never played with a lens anywhere near that wide before, not to mention a fisheye, so it was fun getting to experiment. Needless to say, I was fairly pleased with some of the shots I was able to get with it.

I really like the effects you can get with a fisheye, I should look into getting one when I offload my 24-60
