Oregon
Oregon
I just got back from a job in Oregon. It was COLD!!!
I only took my SD800 with me because I would get in trouble if I had my DSLR...This company always shoots in such amazing places that I WANT to bring the D100, but I know if I do I won't be doing the job I was hired for...so a compromise is made.
Anyway, it was so beautiful. The fog kept rolling out and rolling right back in. On the website there are little names/descriptions for each pic.

It was in Albany. We were crashing in Lebanon.
Sorry I never got back to you. We didn't come back to Portland until Sat morning right before our flight.
Tillamook got canceled because of snow.

You're a camera dork, too, huh. Well, I sadly I'm not in need of anything while this strike is happening.

Yea the strike... there's gonna be a lot of post work soon though but editing just never really piqued my interest much.
Just stay hungry. A lot of people wont survive. They don't get what being in the camera dept is all about, or how much demanding and physical work it is, so they'll quit. This is a tough industry to be in, but those will the will power can do very well.
Thats what our teachers keep telling us, I'm still young though so I can afford to stick it out. I definitely agree its really demanding, I haven't done that much work on other people's sets but just from the projects I've been on (some pretty extensive) it's definitely not easy. The documentary I'm working on right now is going to be really intense once we get to principal photography.
But yea, no kids and not gonna get married for a while now so I can make it those 4-5 years until I get decent work

I mainly work as a cameraman for movies/tv, but I have been working with this production company that does a lot of Yamaha stuff for a few years now. Its a fun break from the usual pace.
For something like this shoot, how does a scenic location like this typically get scouted? Does the production company have its own location scouts? Are there companies that just do location scouting? Would the client's marketing department have already done the scouting and dictated where they wanted the work shot? Just stuff I've always wondered.

I'm not sure how they landed on Oregon. In the past we did these shoots at Coal Creek, Tennessee.
But when they decide on a place they may have a contact already or will call teh local film commission and hire a locations person locally. After telling them what they want they will come up with the some places, and then the producer, director, whoever will usually fly out and scout to pick.
