Olympus E-P1
Olympus E-P1
No Comments/thoughts on the Olympus E-P1?
It's a very interesting camera. A real bridge camera
between a point and shoot and a DSLR. I wonder how well it will do.
I think it could fill most of the needs of your typical P&Ser
(higher ISO, dynamic range) without adding all the bulk and etc that
a SLR brings to the table.
With no autofocus sensor & optical viewfinder, it doesn't try to
compete with a real SLR. I think having a lack of internal flash
also hurts it, for the market it is chasing.
But The E-P1 with a good midrange lens could satisfy many people who are
having issues with their P&S. (Although it has been quite a long time
since I've heard someone complaining & upgrading their digital camera
recently. Has the market topped out?)
Sigma really dropped the ball with the DP1 - they should have taken
over the world with that one. I wonder if they fixed it all with the DP2.

I know many that are chomping at the bit for this camera. The lack of what you have mentioned means nothing to those who want a good ISO P&S type camera. I'm so close to preordering one of these, but might wait until the price goes down. I been reading about these all morning. With the micro fourthirds of this camera making it half the size of a dslr and smaller than most "pro" P&S it will do very well.
Sigma severely dropped the ball on their DP line.

I think what it ultimately boils down to with this camera is that has that "Leica M8 for the common man" appeal. And on that front, I'm going to be curious to see how good the sensor and image processor is. If it's half way decent, I could see people sticking 3rd party Leica M mount lenses like those from Voigtlander on the front of this thing.
You should be able to stick Leica M mount lenses on anything that uses the four thirds or micro four thirds system. Someone just needs to make the correct adapter. For that matter, this one may already work.
