Sounds like a logical move for that line. And sounds impressive.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Didn't the D300 just come out late last year?

It's a competitive marketplace.

Is it supposed to be in direct competition with any current or proposed Canon models?
I'm not very familiar with Canon's line up.

@ $1,999 not really. Isn't the 50D around $1,100? The 5DII is $2,700 so I'm sure they'll lure some potential 5D buyers with the video feature.

But regardless, why complain about an upgrade to an already fine camera? They want to stay ahead.

Could have sworn the D300 came out in Sept of 07? So a March 09 launch is 18 months. Sounds about right.

The 50D's MSRP for the US is $1399.00, that's what it was selling at for about the first 60days.

And this is just rumors, not a Nikon announcement.

True, but I'm sure the street price has to be sub $1,200?

Vistek is advertising the body for $1,299 CAD

EDIT: Yup, $1,095 US. I was curious.

A lot of online stores are now below the $1200 USD, but B&M stores are still at MSRP. The main US online stores sold at MSRP for the about the first 60days. Also don't forget Canon has an instant rebate on the 50D currently.

Given the perceived issues with Canon upping the resolution for the 50D, and all the incumbent squawking about it, why isn't there the same complaining about this camera? I mean to hear some say it, the 50D is an unmitigated disaster when it comes to high ISO performance. I wonder if the same will be said about the D400.
