I had mine crap out on me this week, the shutter would not open at all and it not covered under the warrenty, it was a Cybershot 3.2 megapixel
I would like to go small and compact but would like the nice pictures and to stay under 200 shipped
please let me know if you have any ideas of links to good sites for prices
thanks

I would go to places like dpreview.com and steves-digicams.com first and just review different cameras out there to get an idea of what you would like first. Shopping solely on price can bite you in the ass in the end.

Wife told me to go get one and I found this one
http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/read...ey=canon_sd600
canon SD600
249.99 but price matched for 199.99 and then found a coupon online for it at staples for 15 bucks off, and I got the 1gb sd card for 20 bucks too so out the door it was 218.43 for everything and the card
I must say it is a nice camera, for 6megapixel

I have the SD600 which has to be sent back. It fell no more then 2 feet while in his case. It won't power on now. It it the only camera I have had that has had such a short fall and completely stopped working. I have heard of others having the same issue, or issues where their shutter won't open. I really liked my panasonic I had before this camera and may look to replace it with another panasonic.

I still have my Nikon 4500 from '02, never had a problem with it, still works perfect. There are a few bad seeds in any bunch but don't discredit a camera because you dropped it a few feet and it stopped working...

The Imaging Resource does very thorough reviews of cameras and you can sort by price, brand, or resolution. Check them out: http://www.imaging-resource.com/WB/WB.HTM?view=6
I've used the SD600 and SD630 and thought they were very nice point and shoot cameras. I still prefer the A series with the flip-out screens. They're not really "pocketable" though.

The Panasonic I had previously was slightly smaller, had better image quality, was easier to take pictures with, had far better video quality, and was able to take a slight fall without being damaged. I am trying to give my opinion on the, as I see it, fragile design of the Canon Elph series. Just cause you have one you feel threatened by this observation that I have for some reason. Not my problem. Deal with it. He can get whatever he wishes. Also, not my problem.
Must be some kind of insecurity.

i've dropped my canon s200 on concrete at least 3 or 4 times from heights of 4 or 5 feet with no case. Usually someone hits my hand, or a random knife fight breaks out. It has a few dings in the cases but still works pefectly.
And it's going on at least 3 years old now. And I bought it used for <100 bucks 3 years ago
. Too bad it took a backseat to my XT, but if i need a P&S, i still use it. Plus it's nice to be able to fit 1400 pictures on a 256mb CF card.

I have to admit, cameras are getting more fragile over time, at least in the pocket cam world.
I beat the holy crap out of my Olympus 2020. I mean I dropped it on rocks, it got rained on, hailed on, microwaved (don't ask), and the thing just kept on ticking.
That's part of the reason I don't like LCDs getting bigger too - various cracking issues as they get bigger. And it's not just getting dropped - things get bonked around if say, you have it hanging from your neck strap, and you bend over. Stuff like that.
There are certainly more important things to worry about than build quality.
But I wouldn't take it TOO lightly, because everyone drops their cameras eventually.
Can you imagine if cell phones were as fragile as cameras?
