nice waterfall.

As an aside, I effing hate those rock piles people make... I have been known to kick them over. I go to nature to see nature, not some rock pile someone made when they were there. I feel like people have this need to leave their mark on places, and nature is no place to leave your mark. No one cares. Might as well carve your initials into a tree...

Nice shot Austin! It seems like you're enjoying your stay in NC. The leaves at my parent's house have yet to start changing color

Thanks. The waterfall is obviously the main subject but I thought the stacked rocks add nice focal point and it tied into the rule of thirds. They are "unnatural" I can agree on that, but some photos can benefit from something like that.

I have more photos of the falls without the stacked rocks, so hold tight.

Here is the 2nd photo...

Eric, was that a shot at him? If so, hilarious.
Stogie, it's funny, I'm guilty of it...did it a couple of times in Switzerland, but for me it was to see how high I could stack and keep the balance. My Dad said it's some spiritual something or other about the balance of nature.

I will admit though, it's gotten annoying to see too.

^^^ Here is my guess...

ISO seems pretty low because no noise (around 400 or 800 MAX)
shutter speed seems the longest (5" or 6" maybe more)
Fstop should be high since no depth of field and he is trying to get a wide area....

Now Austin can correct me

umm explain me how....

I mentioned of a higher aperture, higher shutter speed and lower ISO...

I would have taken the shot at ISO400 so I can drop the shutter speed from 30seconds down to 6-8 seconds...(6" is MAX on D3200) hence the high ISO....ALSO I dont think I would have gotten the lights the way you did with that 6" shutter speed"

I also mentioned a high Fstop (not 1.8 but higher....I was assuming something around f10 or something depending on the lens you are using)....so how am I WAYYYY off?

wayyy off would have been f1.8 1/400 shutter speed and ISO 6400

This is one of those instances where having the ability to see photobucket would have prevented looking like a jackass! LOL...

Point was, you got your camera a month ago and already you're reverse engineering and giving your opinion like an expert. Just teasing you although I find it funny. You are a fast study, I'll give you that.

Don't make me bring up the questions you texted me last night

Anil, the PB I posted was a screen shot of the "info" portion of Austin's shot that actually tells you shutter speed/F/ISO.

ISO 100 ALWAYS

Aperture 7.1, plenty depth for this pic

SS of 30 seconds, so you can get the traffic.

I was using Shutter Priority so the camera selected a suitable aperture.

Anil, you're FAR from using full manual settings just by looking at a scene, because I am too. I select Shutter or Aperture Priority and let the camera select whichever but I always shoot with the lowest ISO possible.

I start with 100 and if it comes out too dark for the lighting I'll bump up a bit. I'm almost always shooting in Program mode.

No it wasn't a shot at him. I have never seen that waterfall in all of the photos I've come across of NC. Ever. Hats off to you Austin for finding and photographing this.

Any chance you can get one of those 'Linn Cove Viaduct' shots that is fairly popular?

I dont know how you guys are telling me different from what I already mentioned....

I mentioned about low ISO, high shutter speed....and I have been shooting in Manual (all of my shots are in manual mode without any post processing)....I ALWAYS set the aperture first, then the shutter and depending on the exposure, I play with the ISO and a the shutter speed

either way

Use your light meter more. I don't use P mode since i usually use Aperture mode or manual mode for using off-camera flashes.

When using modes like AV and TV, the camera does the work for you. Using the lowest ISO is great since you can get the sharpest pics from it.

Jeremy, it does not matter how long you own a camera....and before you start trippin and take the merriam dictionary out, I certainly was not giving any advice nor did I state am a pro....

AS my post mentioned, low ISO, high shutter speed and not very fast fstop....since am limited by the camera and lens, the max shutter speed I get is 6" (6 seconds) and the lens does not allow me to alter the fstop tooo much....

Plus I dont edit my pix...all pix are shot in manual mode without post processing ....

I know you try to "joke" but you keep chiseling the ice and complain that we are on thin ice....

and you can sure as hell post an image of the texts, they got nothing on me

Set to spot metering and meter different parts of the scene. Then set to CWA or similar and see what you get in comparison. Do it enough and the guesswork should diminish.

So why does it happen so often. I also don't get why you don't ever admit that it's nearly impossible to not succumb to ego. That need to prove you're smart, or right, or understood, or have the last word. We ALL have that battle, but in my opinion, nobody is immune to it.
