My Home

Was torn between creating this thread in the Home and Garden sub-forum or in here. But since I did this mainly for photography, I'll post it in here

Home photography is tough. It was mainly not having a wide enough lens and the limiting angle you get depending on the floor plan. One thing that I'm glad the T4i has is the articulating screen. Without it, I think it would be frustrating as hell because there were times when the camera was right up against the wall and I needed to pull the screen out to position the camera.

All of these shots were HDR. I'm honestly not proud with some of it because I think some are over done. But it was something I was experimenting and it was a good experience. Next time I'll try a less surreal approach in editing.

Comments and criticism are welcome. I got some offers from a home investor to take photos of a few houses he's building so I want to do better.

Is this your house? It's gorgeous.

Time to buy that ultra wide lens or see if the person you're working for will throw it in as part of payment...

That home in OC must cost 8 figures.

Any outside shots?

Stunning

That is what's killing me. I used to have the Sigma 8-16 lens and sold it because I wasn't using it enough. The ultra wide would have made the process much easier.

And yes it's my home

Ahh I wanted to do exterior shots but it was night time when I shot these. Haha I wish I can afford 8 figures, but it's a 2000 sq ft home that we bought for $585k.

But here's an exterior shot that my wife took when we first got the keys to the house:

Beautiful house. Is that a mailbox by your front door? Interesting not on the curb.

My boss lives in Dove Canyon, and I thought you were there, looking at the interior pics.

Either way, 8 figures or not, nice house and excellent pictures. Love the front gray bricks.

Yup. It's actually a very convenient location for us, but of course not for the mailman, haha. And actually a lot of the mailboxes in my neighborhood are not right at the curb. The only ones I see that are at the curb are the houses with gates.

Yeah mine is the like that, where it is outside my gate. However it is on the right hand side (i will change it this year). So as I come in to the gate, if I am in my RHD car, its perfect to collect.

Otherwise, I have to park and walk out.

Unlike your one, I am sure my mailman loves mine

You have a lovely home, and you picked some pretty good angles in which to show it.

My critique...shots like the bedroom where you see windows and window slats, and they are closed...Part of shooting an interior space is to make it feel open. Closing a window and not allowing natural light makes its feel smaller, darker, and closed off.

I get that you took these at night...take them again during the day.

Personal criticism...I love that fits bathroom, great design...but a frosted window in the cabinet showing off ugly white PVC piping? I don't get that.

Beautiful fixtures! I found myself taking time to look at each photo. Very nice.

Doh, I actually took the time to close them thinking it'll look more elegant. But I like the idea of the feeling of openness. I will try that next time even if it's in low light.

I don't like it as well. It was an eye sore when I was editing it.

Nice house, and pics look good too. I usually hate HDR interiors because they look so unreal and just plain bad, but yours are nice and understated. The tint on most of the shots looks a little pink to me. My Canon does the same thing and I pretty much always bump it down a click or 2 when I edit interiors. Do you have CFL bulbs in any of your rooms? I think the light they cast contributes to the issue.

Aaaah now that you mentioned it they do look pink to me. Most of these shots were from long exposure, lit by pure lighting fixtures so I'm sure that's the issue. Next time I'll watch out for that and lower the redness in editing.

Yeah, whenever I have to turn off my flash for a shot I get that kind of tone. Were you using auto WB?

wow...that home is gorgeous man!

A wider angle would certainly help, but I think overall you did great.
