That's based on My Research on switching to an A7II and keeping my canon glass.
It's kind of expected since you're adapting lenses for use on another companies camera.
Won't ever be 100% reliable, there's gonna be some kind of compromise.
Could you get by with a 5D3 and a 17-40? If yes then the A7II will work just fine for you.
There are cheaper examples of Sony glass but they aren't the Zeiss models and not as good. The expensive ones are the Zeiss lenses that are phenomenal. They basically sh1t all over Canon L glass for wide to mid range primes.
The zooms are probably on par with L glass but the costs are competitive. Also, with the ability to jack the ISO up high without much impact you can use a slower lens that's smaller and cheaper.
I would think that the jump from my t5i and 10-22 EFS to an A7ii w/ 17-40L would be huge for me, and it would save $550 over the 16-35 Sony lens.
I think what I need to do most is save money for whatever route I'm going to take. For what I'm talking about above I'll be in it $2500 and will still need another lens or 2. This game isn't cheap.

Nope, sure isn't!
And yes, you'd save $500 over the Sony lens. If you were to get the A7I, you'd miss out on image stabilization but the A7II has it built in.
I'd go to the camera shop and try out the combo to see if it works for you. That's what I plan on doing. If I can get the focus performance I want out of my Canon stuff, I'd be down for keeping all my stuff and just upgrading the body.

If I get a Sony it will be the II. I doubt there is a camera store in town that has them in stock. Maybe when I'm up in Vancouver BC I can check one out..

The strong US dollar will get you pretty far in Canada but there's that 12% tax. What about going down to Oregon, isn't it a sales tax free state?

If you're in the US, just order from a company that doesn't have a site in your state. For me, that's BH Photo. Saving 7.25% on a $1600 camera body is significant enough for me to forego the free two day shipping.

Yes, we have no sales tax. I just don't think there is a store in my area that carries the Sony in stock, just so I could check one out in person. Heading up your way next week though, so maybe I can check one out in Vancouver.

We've already been below 0 a few times this year. It's also snowed about 25" in town so far this winter..
Wow, that's a crap ton of snow and cold. We've been having a pretty mild winter so far. The first few days below 30 have been really recent and we have no snow on the ground. It's still raining here since it's too warm to snow. Definitely out of the ordinary, usually it would be like 5F outside and we'd already have a foot or more of snow.
Nope, I looked. Pretty much on par though, the low there is 24F.
It's all relative, because I'm originally from sunny SoCal, so to me this is cold as fuck. Kinda like how I feel when some folks whine and bitch about the "heat wave" when it's barely 80 degrees

Welp, the 40D is off to its new owner so this is real now. I gave the body to my wife's little cousin so she can learn photography (also because it's not really worth anything).
I was planning on selling the printer on CL but there seems to be a glut of them on CL form others so I am not sure I will ever be able to sell that...
Still, it's $100 less than the 6d/24-105 bundle with LR6, and I can upgrade my lightroom v1.1 to 6 for $80 through adobe, so I think I am going to pull the trigger...
Stogie, don't forget, your purchase qualifies for a free 13 months of CarePAK priority service and accident insurance (it protects from accidents such as careless drops and spills).

Anyone want a pixma 100 printer for $100 plus shipping? BNIB?
I don't have a good "seller profile" anywhere, but would like to sell my Canon 10-22mm. Any suggestions as to how I can sell it?
There don't appear to be any for sale on CL in my area, so maybe thats an option... I am not on FM or the other sites though.
My recommendation would be to hit up POTN. All you need is an account with 30 posts to get a seller profile and there's a massive buy/sell community there. Local photography FB groups are a good option too.
Currently have a 40D that will become the wife's (with 17-55 f2.8).
I just don't see her ever saying "gee, I really wish I could go wider than 17mm"... It's fun for her, but she just isn't that into it and so the lens will just sit (as it mostly has for me, too).
We will be able to share the 70-200 F4 and the 50 f1.8, and then each will have a walk around general zoom lens on the camera.
Then I am DEFINITELY looking forward to what you have to say about the 6D since I'm working on upgrading from a 40D as well. Really looking forward to being able to use a setting higher than ISO800 without ruining the image with noise.
On another note, I decided to keep the 70-200 and run it with an adapter. It's an excellent lens that I really want to keep around and I don't have to sell it so I'll keep it.
Once I get it I will let you know. I was concerned about the 6D not having a popup flash (hey, I don't always bring my 430EX), but with the high ISO performance of the 6D, I don't think it will be a big issue.
