Miz - FWIW I don't think it's the technical qualities of your photos that's keeping people from commenting. It's mainly the subject matter - these photos go with stories that we have no clue about.

BTW, your second to the last shot (guy raising his hand) has a pretty cool perspective/vibe to it.

The soccer shots are pretty cool, too. Maybe try larger aperature on some to isolate the subjects.

Keep it up.

The parking nightmare is pretty common to college (and now even high school) campuses. Hell, when I was at CSULB, we would drive up to the walkway, and either follow people back to their cars or offer them rides. It sucked.

OT - For a shot like this, you might have tried a wider angle and a higher vantage point, if possible - showing how full the lot is and how few spaces are available. If people line up while waiting for spots, that would be good, too. Try to get as much of the "story" into the shot.

that was the exact reason why i shot like that, i didnt get teh assignment until friday afternoon at 3pm, and i had a 2 hour event to cover, so i didnt get to the parking lot until 5pm, by then the lot was empty, so i just found the biggest group of cars and got someone to pretend they were parking.

i totally forgot the chime you guys in on the stories behind the pictures so here i go

#1 was taken after a car fire that happened in a parking lot on campus, it was the aftermath after the firefighters put out the fire and the cops cleared the scene, would've been nice to have caught it on fire but i got called as it was happening.

#2 was taken at the free bicycle registration event that happened on campus that was done by our Transportation and parking services.

#3 was our mens soccer team taking on Cal state fullerton at our soccer stadium, it was a tie.

#4 is a shot of someone finding a parking spot in our huge disneyland style parking lot, the reason for the angle was because the parking lot was already empty by the time i got the assignment so i just found the biggest bunch of cars i could find and found someone to pretend they were parking.

#5 is our womens soccer team taking on cal state northridge, we ended up losing

#6 is a picture from a chicano latino conference that was happening on campus, they were pretty much protesting against the low number of minority faculty at our graduate school of education.

#7, 8 & 9 were taken from a sex savy literature lecture where they talking about being sexually literate and knowing more about sex. stuff like that.

anyways here is some more work that has been published since.

this was another photo i submitted at the UCR vs Cal state fullerton mens soccer game, i guess they just reused the photo cause they needed a photo to use.

another photo i submitted for the UCR vs Cal State Northridge womens soccer game, again i assume they reused it because they had nothing else to use.

the next photos were just of people wearing their Halloween costumes on campus on Halloween day.

some 80's skateboarders

a guy dressed a zombie biting into his friend dressed as a

hmm.. obviously shes dressed up as a firefighter. heh.

it appears that they use alot of photos that i had shot and submitted for one event and use them for an entirely different event.

anyways here are some more if you guys are interested, but i doubt you are.

another photo from the UCR vs CSUN womens soccer game that wasnt previously published.

and again.. I'm beginning to think that they didn't have very many pictures taken at the womens soccer games so they're just pulling up my stuff to use.

this was the UCR vs UC Davis mens soccer game. we ended up losing 1-2.

this was the actual photo they used for the UCR vs UC Davis game article. everything else was churned out of the archives for different articles published at a later date.

The UCR vs UC Irvine mens soccer game. we won 2-0.

This is from a scene in the UCR theatre department's production of the Greek play 'Lysistrata'.

and another scene from the UCR theatre department's production of the Greek play 'Lysistrata'.

this was taken at the UCR vs Cal State fullerton womens volleyball game. we lost, our team is pretty bad.

this was taken at a tobacco jeopardy event that happened in one of the residential halls. it was an event for the tobacco awareness week that was happening on campus. whats happening here is that the participants were served mocktails to show that students don't need alcohol to have a good time.

same tobacco jeopardy event, shown here is one team deciding on an answer to the question being asked to them.

and this is that same team pointing to the answer that they want to select.

i tried shooting basketball, ohh man that is tough, for one thing my lenses are too slow and its such a fast pace.

if im going to continue with sports photos i definitely need a 70-200 2.8 lens for faster shutters and nice background blur

Even f2.8 might be slow for basketball. I would love to get my hands on a very fast prime.

you're probably right about that, i was shooting with my 50mm 1.8 @ 2.2 and my shutter speeds were around 1/200th.

then again, some areas i was shooting with my 70-300 IS @ f/4 and my shutter speeds were around 1/200 as well.. so I'm pretty sure a 2.8 would help.

I liked some of the shots i myself am doing it for my school newspaper (college)
Its pretty hard from sports shooting, to event coverage, and like arts and life, what does the article need to say or show.

Sometimes I miss out on the best part of the even due to class, but i still manage to sqeeze in a shot or two of the event.

The 70-200 f/2.8 is a good lens for shooting hoops, I use it myself for that purpose. Just bump the ISO to get the shutter speeds you want. A well-lit gym helps, of course. A fast prime is a good option too, but the fixed focal range can be restrictive if you can't move around much.

Nice pics, BTW.

Hmm...you can use a custom white balance. Test shot on a white piece of paper or something and then set it.

You would notice that.

And if you read the sign in the back it says "Trade War for Piece". Me thinks this was a "Make Love Not War" kind of play.
