I've entered the dark side.

This bad boy arrived yesterday....

DOF is very shallow on this piece of glass. My focusing is a bit off on most of the pictures. Need more practice.

Here are some shots I took that evening...

I really like the way you cropped the picture of the bridge. What model is the lens, which I know nothing about, Canon guy here.

Nice work! Another at ya.

I gotta ask, where is that park? I live within 10 minutes or so of your listed location and I can't for the life of me place where that bridge is.

Thanks everyone for the kind compliments.

The lens is a Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 with VR (Vibration Reduction). It's about 3.5lbs or so.

That park is located in Elgin. The wife and I stumbled upon it driving back from eating at a Mexican restaurant. She noticed a park when we went over the Fox River. So we went back there a couple of days later. It's a really nice park. Super clean considering there are a ton of birds in that location. I like it. I'll be back to take more pictures. We only walked about half way through the park.

I couldn't wait for the lens to arrive, so opted for Next Day Air.

I've got the same lens, and honestly can give or take the VR feature. But the glass is very nice.

If you can find one and don't need the VR, the out-of-production 80-200mm AF-S is really nice too, and lighter for a few less bucks.

Great pics, ConradE46. I have Canon's version of this lens and it's definitely a versatile focal range. Looks like the Nikon is very sharp.

svtmike, I've found IS in the Canon's to be very useful, especially on longer zooms. I guess I just assumed the VR was as effective.

It can be effective, but it's hit or miss for me as far as how well it works. I'd rather learn to hold the lens steadier. And it adds a lot of weight to the lens.
