I just got a new bag for my nikon. I picked up a Crumpler 5 million dollar bag...

I don't know if this is a stupid question so I thought I'd ask.

Which direction should I store the camera? Should I store it so that the lens is pointed down or pointed up? Does storing it downward cause any damage to the camera body or lens?

I don't have an additional lens yet to store with the camera, only a flash.

My initial review of the bag, the padding seems kinda thin, but the quality appears to be high. the interior dimensions seem kinda tight to fit a lens, body+lens and a flash, but when I get another lens we'll see how it fits, but it will be very snug.

all the pics I see show it lens facing downward..

I was looking at bags myself today, think I'm gonna bite on the Lowepro Slingshot 200.

Lowepro, kata, crumpler, some of the names people threw at me for good quality bags. Can't go wrong with it.

But the bag you're talking about now... looks awesome!

The 200 is nice but the sling does get a bit heavy on one shoulder.
I always switched shoulders.

Also watch out the padding maybe soft some say some guy said he dropped his bag and he broke his stuff... I mean I never dropped mine but mine slipped here and there so no damages.

I sold it since i was fittinga 70-200 50mm 1.4 d300 sb800 and 18-200 vr lens in that bag
It got way too heavy on a sling.

I'll only be using it to carry the camera, to/from work. I think it should be fine. And, I don't plan on dropping it.

Thanks for the input though.

The strap foam does wear out after a year it just gets pushed to the bottom so just watch out for that lowepro sent me a new bag when i called it in for warranty
i think it was lifetime.

I love that on those styled backpacks.

So generally speaking, storing a camera in a bag vertically with the lens pointed down won't damage the lens or the camera body?

Not if you don't drop the bag. The padding is there and protects the gear, but it's not really designed to protect it from hard drops. Number one rule: Don't drop your camera!

Another for Crumpler bags!

Even though the padding is kinda thin, it does its job. I just picked up the 8 million dollar bag and it fits all my goodies.

I put my gripped 5d2 with L-bracket pointing down.

sorry for reviving the old thread, but i just didn't want to make a new thread.

as you guys might already know, currently i have canon 40d, 18-55 IS kit lens, nifty fifty, and tokina 11-16. i had been storing my cameras in my old camera bag, and i think it's finally time for me to get a new bag.

i'm looking to purchase one 430 or 580 flash within couple months and 70-200 lens early next year. so i'd love to purchase a camera bag that would fit all of these items that i've mentioned.

i don't really need a fancy bag, i just want something that is good to carry my gears around. also, i'm not sure if i should get a backpack type or shoulder bag.. what do you guys prefer?

Thanks guys.

just found a sweet deal on Lowepro CompuTrekker AW Backpack over at canon forum.

anybody has experience with it? it has very good review on it.

he listed it at 95 bucks, i lowballed him at 80, and he said 85 bucks is the lowest he can go.

its $164 brand new from amazon.. so the pricing itself is very good i guess.
