NOOB photo time. I put the battery in and slapped into P mode and did a few adjustments and away I went with a few pictures playing.
A few pics from the 30D...First time messing with it a few shots. I did RAW format, which looked damn clear and adjusted them a little drop the size down and used maximum resolution in Adobe, but for some reason Adobe blurred them a little. Wonder why. Ugg. The picture of the cat on the bed is the same one as the close up just cropped.

wow, i still have like a 2 mp olympus camera with like 2x zoom. might be time to upgrade, how much did this amazing setup cost you and where did you get it from?

Poor kitties always get shot whenever there's a new camera in the house.
Don't worry, if I had a cat, you guys would be sick of all the pics of it by now.
That's pretty brave of you to jump right into RAW mode, but kudos for giving it a try!

Going to pick up my 50mm 1.8 lense on Sunday for 80 bucks.

^^I'm not sure why you think those shots are "blurred." They look pretty good to me. What kind of PP did you do?
I think you'll like the 50mm 1.8. As good as zooms have gotten, I still think primes are better for sharpness, color and contrast. I was just messing around with my 50 1.4 a few minutes ago, and that lens never fails to impress me. What it gives up in convenience, it more than makes up for in sheer clarity. It's out of camera results are usually as good or better than my processed zoom results.
I've spent a lot more on zooms that didn't impress me as much. It's also light and stealthy.

I used photoshop to adjust the pictures and used maximum resolution. I used the Digital Photo Professional and ZoomBrowser to do a few changes as well. Any recommendations on better programs?

I'm also a big fan of the 50mm F1.4. I use it most of the time I take pictures with my 20D and the clarity is great.
One tip with Canon's DPP, if you plan to upgrade your computer down the road, you might want to consider dual core CPU's. I've noticed the post processing makes use of both of my cores resulting in quicker processing.

Sounds like you're good to go. I tried using Photoshop to manage my images and found myself going back to DPP for all my RAW conversions and management. The batch processing was so much easier than using photoshop (for me). ACR might be better, but I've never used it so I cannot compare.
If you're not familiar with the 30D (or DSLR's), the way I learned everything was to take tons of pictures of similar items (say, a bottle on your desk). Change one thing on the camera and snap a new picture. This way you can see what the change did to your image. Go through the instruction manual and try everything. It should help you a bunch if it's anything like the one which came with my 20D.
