from the looks of it, he works for newsweek, so it is safe to say that none of that equipment is his (except maybe the 5D)

NOTE there is also some (non-obscene) NWS material... (such as a swimming nip-slip)

this is a site similar to somethingawful.com or other such sites... so keep that in mind.. there are some beautiful images, some obscene and some not-so-beautiful images..

Great motion shots. That's the next thing I want to learn to do better. When it's right, it's awesome.

and wow, they had some fantastic indoor lighting there.

the best lighting i shot basketball in was at the Anaheim convention center, and i was able to get 1/320th-1/400th f/2.8 iso1600

and in his shots he was able to get 1/800th f/2.8 iso1250

that is almost a 2 stop advantage!

The tilt shift shots of the BMX and diving are sweet. I like how he used that lens to break away from what other photographers were doing. The overheads are cool too.

geez, you would think they would run out of channels on the pocket wizards.

edit:
nevermind

Most photographers get custom Pocket Wizard Channels prior to the games… you can send your units in to LPA and get a custom channel for around $150 per unit - well worth it - and frankly indispensable at events like this - the last thing you want is to have someone else who’s shooting the half-point of the race fire off your remote by mistake… so that it’s buffering by the time the runners are reaching the finish line - and you end up with zip after more than 17 hours of waiting….

how a Nikonian does it at the Olympics..

Bill Frakes, one of ten Sports Illustrated photographers assigned to the Beijing Olympics.

check his gallery.

http://www.billfrakes.com/

26 x D3 bodies
3 x D300 bodies
6 x chargers
20 x spare batteries
3 x TC 1.4 teleconverters
1 x 14mm f/2.8,
1 x 15mm f/2.8
3 x 14-24 f/2.8
2 x 24-70mm f/2.8
3 x 70-200mm f/2.8
3 x 200mm f/2
3 x 300mm f/2.8
3 x 300mm f/4
2 x 400mm f/2.8
1 x 600mm f/4
20 x Manfrotto 468MGRC4 Hydrostatic Ball Heads
10 x Manfrotto 244 Variable Friction Magic Arm with Camera Brackets
20 x 635 – Quick-Action Super Clamps
1 x Gitzo GM5561T Traveler 6x Carbon Fiber Monopod
2 x taller Gitzo 6x monopods

Before anybody gets to carried away remember that this guy does track and field and many of these cameras and bodies were set up as remotes. For the finals of the 100 metre sprints he used 25 D3 remotes plus one hand held to make sure that every piece of finish line action was caught. The remotes were generally fired by cable release.

If you want to see a little of his work here is his web site.
