Smile FS: Crumpler 8MDH, Hoodman Viewfinder, Acratech Leveling Head

I have a few goodies that I'd like to send to a new home...

Brand new Crumpler 8 Million Dollar Home (a.k.a. the 8MDH).
Ordered it sight-unseen and it's just a little too big for my needs, so I never used it. It still has the tags on the bag.

I've removed some of the dividers for the internal photo, but I will include them with the sale. This bag will hold two pro-sized bodies with large lenses attached. This bag can also house a 14" laptop. My Lenovo T60 fits like a glove, so it may be ideal for a journalist or location shooter.

Paid $170, selling for $120.

70-200 with hood for size comparison. There's easily enough room to have that lens mounted and facing down in the bag. I haven't tried it, but you should be able to mount a 100-400 too.

Acratech leveling head
A few blemishes from light use, but functions perfectly and makes for a very solid mount. In a pinch, it can be a super lightweight ballhead, albeit with a limited amount of travel.

Paid $149, selling for $90.

Hoodman 90 Degree Viewfinder
Great for ground level shooting and when your camera is angled steeply upwards. Also has a magnifier for critical focusing and a diopter to adjust to your eyesight needs.

Paid $129, selling for $60

All prices are plus actual shipping costs to your location.

Thanks!

Hmmm... might have some interest in the leveling head. Any idea what kind of shipping and duties would be involved for a US (california) sale?

Good luck with the sales.

I think shipping should be about $10 with insurance. I'll mark the customs papers as a gift so they shouldn't hit you for any duties at the border.

Can you mount this on a ballhead?

I'll keep this in mind, but if you find another buyer in the mean time, don't wait for me.

Hmmm... yes, you can do it, but I'd have to say there's really no reason to do so. Most people use a leveling head attached to their tripod with either a geared head or a 3-way head on top. The leveling head is very fast to set up, then they make their composition adjustments using their normal head.
If you just want it for the spirit level to tell you when you're straight, I'd recommend getting a hotshoe level instead.

That being said, you would need a 1/4 to 3/8 adapter for the bottom and a 3/8 to 1/4 for the top to do that.

I would imagine that leveling head might also be useful for DSLR or small camcorder video if you put a pan/tilt head on top.

...especially if you don't have a dedicated video tripod with a bowl.

I have hot shoe spirit levels, which are great for taking single shots. But when trying to take panoramics, it just isn't enough. I guess if this was under the ballhead, it would level the ball head, then if the camera were level, the panos would still work, right?

Didn't even think about the video aspect, that would be a bonus.

Honestly, I think you should look for a panning clamp to mount to your ballhead. You level the clamp with the ballhead, then use the rotation of the panning clamp to shoot your panorama.

The RRS clamp is beautiful but insanely expensive for what it is:

I'm sure with a little searching on eBay you can dig up a decent knock-off.

Good luck with the sale.

I did, in fact, make one of my rare exceptions, but if you're not a long time member with a long history of service to Acurazine, and a wife who is an outstanding moderator, don't bother to ask.

^^ How do I get my wife to become a moderator without her ever knowing what really goes on in Ramblings?

I would have never thought to look in the black market for photography equipment. I am very surprised at how much Canon equipment has sold in there...so I listed my lens

Good luck with selling your items Dan!

Thanks!
