First Photos from the 7D

I picked up the 7D about a week and a half ago. I haven't had a lot of time to play with it yet due to work and weather, but here are some of the first shots.

The shots are of a go-kart race that my daughter's boyfriend was in. It was a heavy overcast day with intermittent rain. In fact the races were canceled late in the afternoon due to rain. I used the Canon EF 100-400mm lens for the pics of the race and the EF 28-135mm for the pit area pics.

This one shows my vantage point - top of the stands near the corner of the track - it was a 1/4 mile track, for reference.

Same vantage point, zoomed and cropped.

A few shots from the pit area.

And one shot of the full moon using the EF100-400mm set at 400mm with a Canon 2x TC (800mm total), manually focused using Live View, ISO 400, 1/125th, f/11.

Looks good, under less than ideal shooting conditions.

Thanks. The dark skies, the intermittent rain, the high winds, the rickety stands that were far from steady, the camera with large zoom being hand-held, and the fact that the karts were going 60mph made clear pics pretty difficult.

Are you happy with the camera so far? There's been some beefing about AF and noise and the like on some forums. Usually, I disregard it because just about every body that comes out gets put through the wringer, whether it's warranted or not. The pixel-peepers, you know.

To be honest I really haven't used it enough to have noticed any of the issues stated. I do like the camera overall, it's a huge step up from my XSi. Just the way it feels in my hands is an improvement.

I had it set to center point autofocus and AI servo mode.
