That was the place.

See....now that's where you're lucky! You have access to a lot of cool barns and farms as part of your work (although I know you're not really going there to shoot some photos). The places I happen to come upon are all random structures owned by complete strangers to me. It's pretty hard to find an abandoned property that'll allow me some 'freedom' to shoot without worrying about being shot by an owner.

Of course, I could always just ask the owner if they'd allow me to shoot the barn on their property, but I've never had to guts to do that....so I usually have to drive by a lot of really cool looking places that I never get to shoot.

Well, if you're ever in Virginia....

I just got the chance to use it yesterday, and was very pleased with it. Not that every photo came out perfectly, but the flaws were all user error! I was shooting wide open to get the near solid color background, so occasionally the focus was in the wrong place. With tiny little flitty birds, I found that tracking and focusing was a challenge, but that's just the nature of the subject! I'm looking forward to taking it on a hike, and maybe getting the chance to shoot some larger subjects. Maybe next weekend.

great pics! Maryland countryside looks beautiful.

you shot this with the 17-85? I've never been able to get that much bokeh with that lens, what focal length and aperture was this at?

Thanks Danny. Wide open (5.6) at 85 mm. If you move close to the subject and have a little space between the subject and the background, this lens can really produce some nice bokeh.

Thank you! Consider it an open invitation to visit VA and hike or wander around some farms sometime. I meant to tell you that you inspired me to ask the owner of one of the farms I've had my eye on for a while for permission to come shoot. She said it was fine, so I just need to pick the right day for it. Thanks!

What a lovely compliment! Thank you! Yes, I will welcome spring, but the snow sure is pretty to wander around in. I still wish we'd get a good foot or so, sometime this winter. Call me crazy, but I like it.

Yeah I know what you mean, I love to take pictures oh snowy areas. Sucks that I moved from NoVa where we got atleast a few inches of snow every year to the Norfolk, Va beach area where we are lucky to get an inch..Oh well please keep us updated with your pictures. You truley have an eye for beautiful shots!
