External Mics

I don't use my D7000 for video all that much, mainly due to how annoying the autofocus sound is during playback. I know I could manually focus, but for me at least, it gets to be a lot while trying to keep an eye on the action. With our dog doing better and the addition of the new puppy, we want to get as much decent videos of them as possible. So I am looking for suggestions for an affordable external mic that will eliminate the annoying autofocus sound. I am not looking for some amazing upgrade in sound quality, as the internal mic is otherwise ok, just want to find something that allows me to video without hearing the focusing. TIA

Hard to say really.

but Nikon makes this mic:

Amazon Amazon

There are one two other version made by sennheisser and one other company. I think the price is ballpark on all of them.

This one seems to have pretty decent reviews.

Actually...scratch that.

Read the reviews...some guy bought one for the exact same camera and reasons as you and says it only helps a little.

To be honest...start practicing pulling your own focus. It will only serve you better as time goes on.

If I wanted to be lazy I wouldn't have gotten a camera with 39 focus points

I have enough trouble trying to keep this puppy in frame, trying to focus and everything as well will be a pain. I don't mind manual focus for still shots, but for video I would like to utilize the autofocus. It was one of the reasons I wanted to wait on the D7000 over the D90.
