Question CF vs. SD prices

I happen to be in Best Buy today (couldn't help but gawk at the D300) but I was just curious. I know Best Buy isn't the best place to use for comparisons, but are CF cards generally more expensive than SD cards? I was a little confused and a little irritated. I wouldn't by any means make the decision of what camera I get based on memory cost, but the price of a 8 gig CF was about twice that of a 8 gig SD. Just curious if this is generally how it has always been.

they're overpriced 8 gig card probably wasn't even a name-brand like the Transcend link you provided...

by the way, my most recent mem card purchase was an 8 gig Class 6 Transcend SDHC card for $30.99 at newegg...

To be honest I don't think I have even heard of 16 gig. The one at Best Buy was a SanDisk Elite for a hundred and sixty dollars. I thought I had gone nuts. I RARELY buy things from Best Buy, but I will look at their ads...they do have good deals every now and then, but yes, generally speaking they are WAY overpriced.

I recently purchased a 4GB Sandisk Extreme III card, and it's primo.

Oh and I don't know why but I prefer CF over SD.

Just seems more sturdy and well constructed.

I'm in the market for some new cards. I thought when SD cards first came out, they were more expensive. But I think since they became basically the standard and CF cards have been harder to come by, the CF cards seem to be more expensive.

I'm debating between transcend cards, or using the rebate for the Sandisks. I think the transcends are still cheaper than the sandisks after rebate.

are 32gb cards even supported by the camera? or do they have to be partitioned? I'm thinking of buying just like 5 2gb cards anyways, just incase any do crap out, i'm not losing THAT many pictures.

I think the best bang for your buck today are the Transcend 266x 4GB. They're fast, cheap, and reliable. I just grabbed two of them about a month ago for less than a hundred bucks.

I got two 8g 266x for $99 each from newegg, with the size of files these days, I wouldn't buy anything smaller than 4g cards.

Now its been awhile since i had my old xti about 2 years, has transcend gotten less failures with their cards?

I heard they were interesting to get 2 years back, but scared of the card failure rate.

i haven't read anything but awesome reviews on transcend cards...that's why i opted to get the 8gig one of theirs...before that, i was buying OCZ...

and the 8gig transcend card has worked very fast and beautifully for me...had it for about a month and a half now...

i don't think you have to partition the card, just need an SDHC compliant camera...

Yea i mean i was scared because back 2 years and more, it was like the bigger the card the more likely it would fail.

I also remembered transcend did have a decent warranty program so it shouldn't be too bad.

If you have the choice of either mediums always go CF. SD's are cheaper, but CF are so much faster

I picked up a Kingston 4GB 133x for $5 back when that deal was alive. Only 1 per household though.

BTW jupiter, do you work for sig?

I've been happy with my Sandisk 4g Extreme IV, but would rather have a 8g. I ran out of space taking photos of my granddaughter's "sweet 16" birthday celebration.

I got a 4gb Kingston a couple months back, free after rebate. Rebate cashed. I've only used it once.
