Canon S5 IS vs. G7

Hi,

I gave my Sony W1 to my sis.
I am thinking to get either a S5 or a G7.

So, I go check out the picture from Canon Japan. The pictures from the S5 seem very noisy and have a lot of purple... thingie.. in the gray + black area.

Would you guys take a look at the samples and tell me if it is just me or the pictures from the S5 are really not as good as the G7 please?

Thanks!

Personally, I'd get the G7, if super zooming capability isn't a need. I like the G7's feature set and the output I've seen from it. It would also make a nice back-up for a DSLR.

I like the ones from the G7, it does have more megapixels. The picture with the women, you can see strands of her hair perfectly. And the colors in the flower shots are nice. But the pictures of the S5 are of landscape and architecture and focus on the buildings not the color and those look good.

From what I read from others the S is a fine damn camera,

You might want to look at the features of each camera to see which will better suit you, I don't think you could go wrong either. The S5 has 22 shooting modes.

I went to the store to check out the G7. I didn't like it. It was totally square and flat in sharp. There was no grip for my hand to hold the camera tight. And it was quite heavy for its size.

They had the S3 in the store too. It was very heavy but at lease it had a hand grip to hold the camera.

Hmmm... so... what you guy think?

They are both $500. For $500, I can get a Pentax K100D. Should I wait longer for next year's models to come out?
