I'm not saying I'd turn down $50 (if I had the option,) but you have to admit, that as a percentage, it's pretty poor incentive. $50 isn't going to make or break someone's ability to buy this camera. :shakehead

yea the percentage is low, but people are lucky that canon even decided to include it in the rebates.

yeah, $50 isn't that great of a deal, but it is $50.

I'm just trying to find a damn 7D, it's like I'm a crack addict trying to score a rock from the dealers that take credit cards.

That's Barry. He's a good guy. I've rented lenses from him in the past, and Moe & I both bought our 7D's through him.

It looks cool in the promo vid.

Do you attach yours to the camera body? Or to your lens? You said it isn't meant for a long hike, but does it swing or bounce around with regular walking?

Are any of you with your new 7D's able to confirm a claim made by someone on Flickr?

The claim: the 7D will autofocus with a EF 100-400mm with with the 1.4x, and most likely a 2x TC, in Live View? He claims that it won't autofocus in the viewfinder, but will in Live View, without taping the pins.

The EF 100-400mm is f/5.6 at 400mm, and I've read here and other places that the 7D will not autofocus beyond f/5.6. Adding the 1.4x TC to the 400mm will give you f/8, the 2x even more. So I am skeptical of the claim.

I may be the only one on here with the EF 100-400mm, so this may be difficult to prove.

Thanks

Hmm, I haven't kept up with it because I don't have the lens, but a thread over on POTN said you have to tape the pins.

Here's the link to the thread. It's been inactive for a couple of days now.

http://www.flickr.com/groups/canon_7...7622546812038/

I've looked through his photostream and there are not shots over 400mm, so that kind of says something. He also owns a 5D mk II as well.

My 7D came in yesterday afternoon. I was afraid that I should have bought a couple lenses and a flash instead. I'm 100% happy I bought the 7D!!! Much nicer camera than the 50D and I really like there there is no click on the shutter button.

It's like the 1D and 5D shutter buttons.

There isn't really a half press to auto focus and full press to take a pic.

With the 1D at least you just slightly press the shutter and it starts auto focusing.

At least that's what I think he is talking about

and usually the rebates are instant off (at least lately), none of this mail in stuff.

EOS 7D Firmware 1.0.9 Available

Firmware Version 1.0.9 incorporates the following fixes.

1. Improves AF accuracy during Live View shooting.
2. Corrects a phenomenon where in rare instances, movie images shot by the camera may exhibit abnormal colors.
3. Corrects a phenomenon that at certain timings, the shutter cannot be released when the camera’s built-in flash or an external Speedlite is used for shooting.

Firmware Version 1.0.9 is for cameras with firmware up to version 1.0.8. If the camera’s firmware is already version 1.0.9, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

For details on Firmware Version 1.0.9, please download the PDF files from the bottom of this page.

Finally went out shooting on Friday for about an hour. Went to a local duck pond around sunset. There are so many controls to play with (mainly with AF) that I'm not sure how well I did since I haven't downloaded them. Plus all of the birds (ducks, geese, etc) stayed on the ground and water, so no BIF test - not that I was even ready for that.

Miz - thanks for the firmware info. Need to check mine and update if necessary.

I'm reading that 7D uses a higher bitrate for video than the 5D2 and thusly produces higher quality videos.... anyone heard of this? Someone just mentioned it at a forum so I don't have a source.
