8.6 gigapixel stiched image

From Rob Galbraith's news site:
HAL9000, an Italian group that specializes in art restoration, preservation and high-resolution art photography, has posted a 8.6 gigapixel stitched image of an Italian fresco. The group claims it's the highest resolution digital photograph in the world.

Looks like they're doing something with their server. Everything worked fine earlier this morning.

I wonder what they're going to do with an image that size? I guess it's only for review on a computer, because AFAIK, there's no practical way of printing something that big.

At 300ppi, that print would be 31.55 feet by 21.03 feet.

That makes sense then. The original work of art is over 35 feet wide.

Most likely printed in strips, like a billboard.
