Pretty cool concept:

'Between You and Me' Filmed in Burst Mode
By Mike Pasini, The Imaging Resource
(Monday, July 3, 2006 - 11:39 EDT)

Boy meets girl. It took just two thousand stills from a Canon 20D but a digicam plays Cupid.

Filmmaker Patryk Rebisz's short film "Between You and Me" splices together over 2,000 stills taken in burst mode with a Canon 20D.

Rebisz describes the plot, "A young woman, snapping photographs in a big city, is attacked and loses her camera. The assault sparks the attention of a young man whose attempts to save her are in vain. In the end, her lost camera becomes his only clue to finding her."

The film won Best Experimental Film at the Triburton International Film Festival, Best Cinematography at the Gotham City International Film Festival, Best Short Film at the Vilnius Independent Film & Video Festival and in the Experimental Film category at Big Apple Film Festival.

Is the picture quality as good as I think it was?? In some scenes its almost on par or superior to movies shot with professional cameras.

It's being displayed at 0.15MP on youtube and it's compressed, so I don't think you can really judge the image quality from that sample. 8MP is far too big to play back using conventional video methods. Even a brand new 1080p HDTV would only be able to display 1/4 of the frame. To put it in perspective:

Although it would have amazing resolution, I don't think the objective of this film was to capture the highest quality possible. More likely it was done as just a means of doing something different. A movie about a girl losing her camera, shot with a still camera is an interesting concept.

That is the idea behind the 2k and 4k digital formats from red cinema.

I haven't seen an actual mock up yet, but the possibilities are very exciting.
