You know, I switched the 40D to B+W to take some test shots in B+W (RAW) and when I imported them into LR, they were in full color. Maybe B+W9jpeg) does not collect the color info but on the 40D apparently RAW is Raw is RAW.

If he comes back and starts more shit, he'll be gone faster than he got back.
back to topic,
Wndr, I like the horizontal comp. I feel like many of the element in the pic are of a "sweeping" or "windswept" nature, and the wide comp allows for their figurative movement. I also feel like the negative space above the row of trees balances nicely with the bottom half of the image.
Cliffs: Me likey #1.

Thanks for the feedback, guys.
The landscape orientation feels more peaceful and inviting to me, while, I agree, the portrait has more drama, somehow. The windswept point about the landscape is a good one. Thanks for that.
In the portrait orientation shot, I like the contrast of the hard, organized lines of the fence transitioning to more tangled branches, then the (vast and) nebulous clouds. The gap in the fence at the bottom left bothers me a bit, though. Cropping it eliminates the leading lines of the shadows, though, so it stayed.
Anyway, glad to see the thread back to bidniss. Thanks, neuronbob.
on any camera raw is raw. But lets worry about that guy next week and enjoy the quietness.

This thread is awesome, great idea Stogs. Some amazing talent in here, Wndr, and Pttl posted some amazing shots, Drigo as well, definitely loving it!
First B&W shot I posted to flickr... which was also the first one to be blogged by DCist. 5 years ago.

And not the most recent B&W posted, but the most recent one I like (and blogged by Exposed DC):

I shoot raw so everything is shot in color. But there are often times that I see something and shoot it with the intention of processing it in BW from the jump.
I tried the SilverFX...didnt see any great advantage.
I will flip between B&W and Color sometimes when editing for B&W to work with specific colors to convert and look the way I want them to in B&W.

You need to shot in RAW and then process with your software. Doing it in camera, you do it the way your camera maker thinks it should look. Plus if you do it in camera, you leave so much information where you took the image, especially in B&W.

Here is a good walk-through for a manual conversion to B+W in LR.

Sweet link Stogie,
I will say that I keep saying shoot Raw and do with software. But Fuji in camera processing produces some really pretty stuff. My buddy has shown me some great stuff. Something I've been against because of what I've posted before. So I will give it a try soon.

A lucky sighting from the deck this afternoon...

Fkn fantastic!
My coworker has a cabin in GA with a wireless IP camera...he's always showing me deer eating on his porch from our computers. So cool.
I shouldn't have cut the shadow of the bike off, but the right edge there was something I was trying to cut off, can't remember what.

Rockstar,I like the perspective! I feel like the road is leading my eye into the frame and then cuts off abruptly though. Would love to see a little more left in the frame.
