OK... so I just gota ask? is my pic too mediocre?
Kinda like... not good enough to praise, but not bad enough to offer advice to.... or worse, to bad to even mention.
I know, I know, I lacked attention when I was a child, so I am seeking acceptance... LOL![Tomato](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tomato.gif)
Give me some kind of feedback DAG-NABIT!

now for sure I look like a noob. WTF is an exif file?
settings.... hmmmm 2.0 aperture, 30 sec exposure... pretty sure that's right..... or is the 2.0 supposed to be the F stop?
ran the file through photoshop, mainly to degrain & enhance the sky color.
oh yes, how do I get the stars to "trail"?
sorry guys... F'N noob status.

TRIOD I don't think I'm really qualified to give you advice, but I'll throw my thoughts in. remember I'm ammy too, I picked up the addiction just last summer. so the following is my thoughts, and should not be taken too seriously.
it's a decent pic, it's a interesting subject, beautiful colour sky in the bg. I think you could dial back the flash power and simplify the composition. your shooting at f/2, I'm asuming the lens was a 1.8 or 1.4. you could angle the shot up as an easy way to simplify the composition. I think the tree and the sky are enough for a great shot, angling the shot up more would get rid of all the shrubs and light trails from traffic. shoot both with the mountain range silhouetted just behind the cactus, and without the mountains. shooting up would probably work ok with a shallow depth of field (low f/stop #). I would also try a long exposure with no flash to bring out the colour in the sky.
but these are my interpretations. the best thing you could do next time I think is take 20+ shots playing with the composition, exposure, DoF and anything else you can think of. but have fun with it.

xdaex love the 56, really like what you did with it.
srika really like those b&ws, and that guitar shot
CGP cool coat of arms, suits the b&w really well
Drigo, those shots are beautiful and dramatic. I think the first b&w is my favorite, but I like the colour version more on that last one.
Vortec that's a nice fight'n fish, I like the colour pattern.

Thanx for the words Zipho. I think I have tons to learn. Unfortunatley I think I have reached my digicams limits when it comes to night shots. First off I have the old Sony Cybershot DSC-F828. YEAH.... its a fixed lense.
![Why Me](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/whyme.gif)
So when it came to this shot, the viewfinder was pitch black. I GOT SOOOO LUCKY IT FRAMED WELL. This shot had no flash & was lit only by our campfire which was to the right in front of the Joshua Tree. The shutter speed was maxed out at the 30 second limit which really sucks since I know I could have got a better sky if I could have left the shutter open twice as long. I think it works pretty good for a beginner cam on well lit shoots but for night shots...
![Why Me](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/whyme.gif)
Oh yes, and by angle the shot up, do you mean simply to crop the image..... or do you mean to move in closer to the subject and angle the cam up^ torwards the sky?

I shoot people
I was in the backyard the other day using my Sigma 90mm f2.8... trying to decide if I should keep it or sell it since I have the 70-200mm f2.8 now.

iso300 nice shot.
TRIOD I guess dialing back the power on the campfire won't work so well. for composition I was meaning aiming up while actually composing the shot, although a cropping the photo would be a way to see if you would prefer it or not. if you continue to practice composition with your little digi you'll be off to good start when you step up to a dslr.

I'm thinking of stepping up to the T2I Body & Tamron 18-270. (I'm just too lazy to be luggin around a KIT lens & a long range) PLUS I can't justify stepping up to a proffesional without more knowledge just yet & I dont have the cash to be spending on $1200up L or Prime lenses

Gosh I was just gonna ask if that is an 828 and then I saw your post above. That is a KILLER camera! I love those things. Don't feel like you *MUST* upgrade from that, it is a serious camera with very good IQ and features! My 2 cents.

.... The lens I mean.![Tomato](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/tomato.gif)
I didn't see the "red" text, soooo I'm not sure if your messin with me, or the camera really is "KILLER" in your eyes. I hope its the latter, but fill me in, whats your experience with these?
I know when I first got it, I paid over a GRAND for it. But my favorite part was the infrared NIGHT VISION function.... HAHA lame huh.

no I wasnt kidding, I love the Sony F series. I wish they would have continued making them. They were like Canon's G series. I'm so crazy, I feel like buying one now. haha
nice HDR, looks just a tad over-sharpened. are you sharpenening manually?

And I have the setting on sharp on the camera..... plus, I sharpen the image every time I shrink images down. Too me it seems like it loses its sharpness when I shrink to 800px.
Does it look too sharp? Also I manually did the conversion with layers in photoshop, so I might have overdone it. I couldn't get any results worth posting in photomatix light.

looks good, if I may give a piece of advice, move away from HDR for now, instead focus on subject matter, lighting, exposure, and framing of your shots. I personally think you would get better results without HDR.

LOL... to be honest, that was my first HDR shoet EVER..... so yeah I think I still need to get it perfected.
The "shoes" shot above was with just 1 image. Just ran it through a minor noise filter & messed with the levels a bit.
this was the original...

nah you're fine this is a multi-purpose thread. I LOVE that pic you posted. doesn't look overly sharp (although arguably just a smidgen oversharp) - good comp and lighting, color, and subject matter is neat too.
also be careful with Noise Reduction programs - compare your original to the NR shot - noise is not always a bad thing - sometimes those programs can make a shot look worse by removing (needed) intricate details and definition. (not saying it happened here, lots of good detail in this shot).
