hey - nice effect, I think its a good first attempt. I have trouble with the halos too, I think its a common thing with HDR. There are ways to minimize that with Photomatix, need to do more tweaking and experimenting to figure out how. I don't think it has to do with picture alignment, the pic looks adequately sharp - the halos are not "ghosting".

Fuggit...I have no more days off before the deadline, and the sun has not cooperated with me. SO, I thought I'd try something a little different....here's an HDR still-life. 5 exposures.

Very nice. I like the DoF, geometric shapes and contrast in textures (between the smooth, sparkly glass and the blurred background). The lights in the background add to the effect, but I'm not sure if those halos around a few of them are due to the combining of exposures or not. Good colors too.

Also, not overly processed looking like a lot of HDR's. Good stuff!

Thanks!

lens = 70-200, I was a little surprised by the octagonal bokeh...

The halos are b/c the lights are candles, so the flickering flame was, of course, not still for the 5 different exposures. I decided I could live with it ....better than the solid grey skies that we've had around here.

Been shooting "seriously" for about a year.. got my first DSLR in '04. But, I've been a fan of photography and taking pictures since I was a kid.

^ Oh yeah.

I've been at it seriously for about a year, as well. I got my first DSLR last August. I've used SLR's since my teens, but never learned anything about the lenses, always just used the kit lens. Took one semester of B&W film photog. in high school. The digital processing stuff is all self-taught from just playing with the software and reading...not to mention some help from my AZ friends. AZ roolz.

My learning curve since going digital has been very satisfying, mostly due to the instant feedback available. Probably also, in part, due to the vast quantity of photos I shoot now that I don't have to pay for processing.

Drigo, your PP'd version is a definite improvement. The exposure in the shadow areas is much better. I like the composition, too. Good use of lead-in lines with the bridge. Good job!

I want to go up on to Sears tower to take a clear Chicago night photograph of the streets. I bet that would look great! The Chicago streets are nicely perpendicular.

thank you!! right now i don't have photoshop or any other photo editing software...what i have is something called PhotoImpressions4...you can't really do much with it other than your basic sharpening,brightness,etc...
and thats all i did was make it a little brighter...photoshop is too overwhelming for me right now ...someday i'll take time to learn how to use it...

^^PS Elements is an affordable way to get into PS. It gives you quite a bit of control and is super cheap, at around $50-80 or so. That is, if you don't want to cough up the full $600 for CS3.

There are some awesome shots here. I just wish I had time - I would go out to capture some shots with the falling sun for a last ditch effort, but this parenting thing is tying me down...

I was inspired by wndrlust's shot, and the amber of a good single malt.

Single Exposure

3 shots 2 stops apart
ISO 100
f4
5 sec, 1/3 sec, 1-1/3 sec

Nothing that couldnt be captured without HDR IMHO.
