Because of the nature of this theme, I vote
. I think it would allow to much of trying to one up the other.
I'm still trying to figure where to take the first shot to even try and enter.

^^Agreed. I don't think voting has ever been based on technical merit, but rather on what appeals to the voter.

I have always voted based on how the photo relates to the theme. If a photo looks amazing but doesnt capture the spirit of the theme, i don't vote for it.
![Dunno](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/dunno.gif)
In this case, the theme is "HDR" , which is a little different. Thats why I posed the question.

I guess here it would be the applicability of the HDR technique. Does HDR contribute to the feel of the image. ![2 Cents](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/2cents.gif)

When you guys create these HDR shots....are you taking multiple shots with your camera at different exposures, or are you manually changing the exposure on one shot (after the fact) with some editing software, and then saving each edit as a new pic? Does this make sense?

I tried it in photomatix and it worked fine. It couldn't tell the exposure settings on the image since they were all technically the same, so I just manually entered them.

btw I'm not concerned that there haven't been any entries yet. In fact, I would have been surprised if there were. This contest is still new. It takes time and it's good that we're putting effort and planning into it, rather than conjuring something up quickly and posting it.

I dunno about other people, but i've tried to put 3 together so far, but they are unfit for human consumption. Looks like i'll have to actually leave my backyard for this.

Some random thoughts... What I find sort of interesting about this is the whole notion of what constitutes an HDR image. It will mean different things to different people. Technically speaking, you can probably consider any single image that combines a range exposure values beyond what your camera is capable of capturing in a single frame. If I had to put some numbers on it, I start feeling the "HDR wow factor" when I see something that combines at least 6 stops worth of exposure values. Even that is pretty subjective though as I find the degree to which HDR impresses me is highly dependent on the subject matter.

For me, I like HDR photos that don't look like HDR photos. I prefer a shot that stands on its own, but when you take a minute to think about it, you realize that there's more range in the scene than you could capture normally. In general, I prefer a subtle HDR look that enhances an already good photo rather than a "HDR for the sake of being HDR" photo.
