Thanks ballinger. Any ideas on where to find a good price on a used refurbished d300? I'm hoping for $1200, but it seems like $1400 is more likely. Also, how important is a warranty? I got a 2 year on the lens from adorama ($25...) I'd imageine on the body it would be much more.

Its almost here, I can smell it!

Seems like a pretty reputable seller from eBay.

Hope the transaction goes through well, and congrats

Yeah, wouldnt have been my first choice either, but cost WAS an issue. Seemed like a good deal, and I've already had several communications with the seller, so I feel pretty good.

I need to plan on getting a warranty or insurance. What can I do to protect my investment?

Thumbs up

Well, the money for the D300 is in the mail. Its being overnighted to CO, and hopefully being shipped out (overnight) tomorrow, so I should have it Monday. Not bad for a mornings work. Funny, I woke up today not really thinking I would have the camera, and I got it.

Monday can't get here fast enough...

Thanks....

Seller had a photoshoot Saturday, so he had to ship today

Should be here tomorrow. Of course my chick is not in town, so I won't be able to use it on her first which is what I wanted to, so I'll have to try it on some people at work.

I'm hoping the 70-200 2.8 and d300 make good music (portraits) together....

The 70-200 f/2.8 should make a great portrait lens.

Well, I got the camera today!

I probably had 100+ clicks from my desk, and this was prob the best of the bunch. First "decent" pic from the D300...I have a lot to learn.....but I am excited though

Exif IFD0

* Camera Make = NIKON CORPORATION
* Camera Model = NIKON D300
* Picture Orientation = normal (1)
* Last Modified Date/Time = 2008:08:26 22:45:38

Exif Sub IFD

* Exposure Time (1 / Shutter Speed) = 10/500 second = 1/50 second = 0.02 second
* Lens F-Number/F-Stop = 28/10 = F2.8
* ISO Speed Ratings = 800
* Original Date/Time = 2008:08:26 14:26:34
* Flash = Flash did not fire
* Focal Length = 1650/10 mm = 165 mm
* Image Width = 800 pixels
* Image Height = 531 pixels

Love the idea of shooting with natural light. Much more to come...

So, me and the d300 have been getting to know eachother over the past few days. I'm realizing that there really isn't a way for me to "practice" with it besides actually shooting what I normally shoot. I tried to shoot stuff within my apartment, and it isn't that helpful at all. Today, we had a quality awards breakfast, and of course, I took the camera and shot it with the 70-200. Good experience. I'm not sure if I just feel more confident now, or the d70s light meter was inacurate, but I shot mostly on manual today for the first time ever. I think the results were DECENT...probably good enough for the web. A guy came later in the even shooting with a Nikon, although I couldnt see what it was. Almost looked like a d70, but couldnt tell. I'm noticing that the lens isn't really as sharp at 2.8 as I would like. I haven't figured out yet if that is at all focal lenths, just at the long or short ends...don't know. Also, the iso performance is NICE...light years ahead of the d70, which I knew already from the reviews, but in practice its crazy. You really do need kind of high iso's to shoot indoors with regular light, AND fast glass. Its been a pretty good couple of days. I really haven't setup anything in the camera yet, like using the color modes, or tried auto iso...still have alot to learn, but so far, its been grrrrrrrreat!

Nice man i just picked up the 70-200 2.8 vr with my d300.

The lens is nice, but haven't got to use it that much.

d300 - means you can push up the iso =)
