Where is the amplifier(s?) located in the new TL? Trunk? Or is it built into the head unit? I'm just wondering for sake of possibly upgrading the amp...

 

Good question... I'm sure we'll be learning a whole lot about this stereo in the next few weeks as people try and upgrade/tweak it. My guess is that it is in the head unit since I haven't heard anything about other amps. I believe the sub is an "active" speaker in that it is self-amplified.

I am specifically interested in switching the front speakers, but I've heard they are 2-ohm. Is this correct? If so, it's hard to find 2-ohm aftermarkets out there.

I listened to the stock stereo the other day, and it sounds great, but it just wasn't that loud. Hopefully this stereo won't be as tricky to deal with as the Bose, but I have a feeling this might be one of the trickiest systems yet since there are discrete channels. If the amp is from the head unit, and every channel is discretely amplified, imagine how tricky this could get. That would mean we'd need amps with 5-channel inputs, etc.

 

Using 4-Ohm replacements allows the amp whether internal, or external will allow the amp to run cooler. I haven't heard of any one using 2-Ohm as standard, but if it's the case you can upgrade and help your system. I was so impressed with the system, I didn't even consider changing out anything. This is one of the first cars I've purchased that I haven't thought about replacing anything especially aftermarket.

 

The amp on the Bose system is located in the passenger's side kick panel.
