Nope. The '87 Legend had a 2.5 liter 90 degree 24 valve all-aluminum V-6 with 151HP. The second generation had a 3.2 liter V-6 making 230HP.

I'm really surprised about the hp of that first-generation one. I had an '88, which I assume was the same -- and it was a mighty powerful car.

'88 was the same, yes. I think the generation change was between '91 and '92. My guess is that it was probably underrated (as we have seen other Honda vehicles to be). My parents' '94 Legend feels WAY stronger than 230HP (especially when my mother drives), but it might be b/c it has a lot of torque. I forgot what the torque number is....

whether you place the electric motor at the rear wheel or sandwhich it between the motor and transmission (as in the civic hybrid) it's all IMA. You still need a motor (gas) to recharge the battery. And yes the hybrid also recharges the battery under braking. The only reason to stuff the electric motor in rear wheels is for better weight distribution.

Hey, DEVO -- I need you!

What do you mean, exactly? That the Euro Accord comes in an "S" type, or, that our TSX is an "S'd up" Euro?

If the latter (which I think is more likely), do you know what specifically are the differences between TSX and Euro Accord?

The NA TSX is a Euro Accord Type S. To be very specific, they used the Euro Accord Type S as the base and added some features and improvements so it's a little bit more the a Euro Accord Type S. I don't know all the features off hand but trust me that you have at a minimum a Euro Accord Type S. The only model that has more power but less torque is the Euro R. It's a smaller engine too. So I don't expext a type S to be built here. What might happen is that the Euro R comes over.

If the TSX does really really well...anything is possible. But in the short term..the only realistic way we could get a type-s is if they brought over the type-r.

Thanks much, DEVO -- but lemme get this straight:

The Euro Accord has both a type S and a type R?

Sort of...

The Euro Accord comes in a Type S model... as explained above. So yes there are less powerful versions of the Euro Accord (NA TSX will not see thoses).

There is no Type R but there is a Euro R Accord. Whether that is a Type R is debatable. It is the fastest version, most performance, etc...

But why not call it a Type R? Don't know. They have a civic hatchback Type R so it's not like they don't have the Type R badging.

here is a link to the specs of a accord euro-r

Dudes...I feel the TSX I4 has tons of potential from the factory. I believe this engine has at least 250hp at it's disposal. I'm not holding my breath for a 6-cylinder or IMA for that matter. I'm not gonna mod mine. Just turn it back in for the new one in 3 years.

Bdeeka bdeeka bdeeka.

I'm in a Marx Brothers movie. Or is it Abbott & Costello.

WTF is a "Euro R Accord"? Wouldn't that mean Euro Accord Type R?

By the way, earlier on this thread we were wondering what does Type S mean as opposed to Type R, altogether. I offered this:

Type S = Taking a relatively polite car and making it sporty.
Type R = Taking a muscle car and making it more muscle.

What about that?

Type R usually means racing car. Meaning cut out the frills...as in no A/C, no moonroof, stiffer suspension (as in feel every bumb) etc... (but sometimes the A/C stays in the car otherwise it doesn't sell very well).

Euro R is not Type R, it's the name they gave that version of the accord. It's probably closer to Type R then Type S.

Type S... is for sport. Make the car look good, perform better, but don't take it to the track. So you get better wheels, some engine mods, some suspension mods, and keep all the frills (moonroof, a/c, etc)

The only model of car that Honda offers that I know of that has a Type S and a Type R version is the civic hatchback.... I think the Type S is the Si version here... Type S rest of the world.

A good example of a type r is the Acura Integra Type R... no A/C, better engine, tight suspension, bigger wheels, no moonroof, etc... I think the NSX type R (Alex Zanardi version) followed this setup as well.... so Type R is marketed to a smaller segment of the market.... Type S on the other hand appeals to a lot of people.

I'm sure TSX will come in Type S but not until late 2004 or early 2005. Honda is never quick to add type s. V6 will not be it's motor. Honda wants to keep a difference between the TSX and Accord. TSX-S will get the Integra Type R engine of 220hp. Honda does not want the TSX to have more horsepower than the Accord. TSX also will not get the engine of the S2000/S2200 because the TSX then would be cheaper than buying the 32K S2K. Right now just look forward for the RDX ( CR-V ) with entry luxury features from Acura. I'm sure this will have the same TSX engine.

Seems like you can still order it from http://www.european-imports.net/manu...ccordtyper.htm

Sales of previous Accord Europe R was so low in Europe so Honda decided not to sell new Europe R in Europe
Instead of they will try to push new diesel Accord next year.

Umm, guys 240HP can be done in a 4!

You guys seem to think that it requires the V6 from the Accord to get to 240HP, ever heard of the S2000? The S2000 is getting upgraded to a 2.2L engine next year, leaving the 240HP 2.0L 4 cylinder engine in the current S2000 to go into a TSX-S!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am betting on it.

justsomeguy: You are totally wrong. The RSX-S has been available ever since day 1. It was released simultaneously with the base model.

RSX-S

Hmm, I wasn't following Acura at the time (actually not great cars when RSX first came out) but if you are correct it is interesting that "hondanews.com", the official website, has the news report one year after the initial announcement. See above and check it out yourself.

justsomeguy: I'm so sure of myself on this that I bought my RSX-S in July of 01. Duh, they announced the "Factory Performance" package in summer of 02. If you would learn how to read and use context clues you would have figured that out. No one has to "follow" Acura to know how to read.

The Accord Type-R was only sold in Europe. It was a designation for the last generation Accord sold in Europe. They do not have a Type-R for the current Accord model.

When Japan found out Europe got a Type-R, they decided to add it to their lineup as the Accord Euro-R. As we all know, they still have this model designation for the current Accord.

Even tho America wanted the Type-R/Euro-R around the same time (previous generation), we ended up waiting patiently for the TSX. Which still isn't a Euro-R.

I am betting against it .... sedan owners do not want that type of high revving engine in their car. If they did ... why didn't the RSX-S engine go right in to the TSX?

I for one am hoping/begging Acura to stay on the higher torque path for the TSX if at all possible

I think the TSX engine is near the torque limit for its displacement, at least for a mass-produced passenger vehicle. I'd be very surprised if we ever see 190 crank lb-ft out of it and thats not even 6% above what it has already dyno'd.

Good point ... I will hold out for a small V6 option or IMA

I was watching Car and Driver on TV this past weekend, and they did a review on the TSX. They did in fact say that there would be one coming out with a V-6 next year. Does that mean a 04 Type-S, released in 2004, or a 2005 model in 2005? Makes you wonder since they realeased this car as an 04 in early 03! Confusing with the numbers, but the point is, there will be a V-6 here soon. Question is, When, and will it be called a Type-S?

I Tivo C/D TV every week and it looks like they're still showing re-runs over here in Nor-Cal. How was the review? Was it as positive as their magazine and online site?
