Is TSX in trouble?

Acura better do something about this (if it's not a fake):

Other than lights, it looks very nice and I read on freshalloy that it will come as AWD 250hp "IS250" and a 300hp RWD "IS350".

I'm sure it'll be more expansive though. What do you guys think? (Sorry if re-post)

Agree! except the headlight, it looks really good! But I dun think it will be the same price range as TSX. BTW, when I test drive the current IS, the manual trans is really sucks. It is no way close too the smoothest of the TSX and it also keep grining on every gear. So hope the new one can fix this issue.

This car will be hella expensive, you can count on that.

Besides, without these concept-car wheels it'll look a little more like a toyota.

But yea, the TSX should really come up with an AWD option and more power in 2-3 years.

I kinda like it. Looks like there will be another choice for me in 2006. So far, these are on my list,

- Subara Legacy GT Ltd.
- BMW new 3-series
- Lexus new IS

250 and 300 HP? NO way. Not when the ES, GS, and LS ALL don't have 300. I can see an IS350GT being 300 HP, but I doubt the lowest Lexus sedan will have the highest HP. As for the design, the front end REALLY doesn't fit well, it looks photochopped, along with the nice looking rear. I don't think this is the car we will be seeing as the new IS, Lexus isn't that aggressive.

I'm not sure about the front end..but the rear end reminds me of the Mazda3

I do have to say the car is enticing... Can't wait till it's release and see the real stats

The rear end isn't as nice as on that LF concept, or whatever it was called, that Toyota was showcasing; this one looks more blunt. The front, for the most part, remains similar.

I don't think 250hp and 300hp is too far fetched. The whole Lexus lineup of sedans is due for a redesign anyway, these output numbers can only signal the beginning of what's to come.

And to answer the question, no the TSX is not in trouble. I don't expect this to come in any cheaper than at least 30K...it may even be more expensive...

Good one. This car is not direct TSX competition. Lexus has ALL EYES on the BMW 3-series.

Since the new rumor is 2 engines, I wonder if the base IS will be a 27k car with the 250hp engine? Or will it remain starting at 30k and hit around 35k loaded like now.

It still undercuts a loaded 330.

Nice looking pictures, I am very impressed. A huge improvement over the current IS which looks fugly IMHO. Can't wait to see the interior, I thought that was the worst part of the current IS.

Having more great cars out there is better for ALL of us.

that IS concept is hot! if that does come w/250hp and awd, for the price of the TSX - i'd be all over it.

if acura puts their awd in either the tsx or the tl - then either will my next car.

I agree, this car will be much more expansive than TSX. Probably ~33K for a 250HP version nicely loaded. And ~37K for 300HP version. Lexus is almost up there with BMW in terms of pricing.
So as I think about it more... Maybe it’s even better for TSX. I mean all people who want an entry level luxury car will turn to TSX because there are no other similar cars in this price range.
On the other hand, who knows what is better for Acura... make TSX more upscale and raise the price or keep it the way it is... It’s a topic that has been discussed forever.

i think it'd be compared to the G35 IMO, especially for the price range it'll fall into

i love how when another automaker comes out w/ a new model, someone always assumes honda has to have an answer for it. the tsx is not really IS competition.

It's just "vaporware" until they actually release a consumer product. The TSX has nothing to worry about until then, and by then the TSX will likely have evolved into a AWD hybrid.

I agree with others that say that the new IS won't compete with the TSX pricewise. Plus the IS will come in sedan/coupe/convertable variants.

I wish Acura made the Rsx into a coupe version of the TSX.

At least we can agree on this. I can't see the base new car costing less than the current one, though. If those numbers hold up, Lexus may have a 330/G35 killer on their hands. Good job.

lots of cars undercut bimmers, they're just too expensive.
the engine choices sound nice, the next thing we need is to see what the final design looksl ike

So let me get this straight the GS 330 will have less Hp than the new IS? And they aren'tutting AWD on the GS 430 just the 330. Yey they will have a 300 HP 6 in the IS, I doubt it. 240 hp I can see. But then it is fairly common knowlede that the 06 TSX will get boosted to 230-240 for 06.

And you know this from........

A closer semblance of the next IS should make the car show circuit by the spring since it will be a fall 05 lanuch.

Why is it that whenever some new car comes out, people on car forums use things like " this will kill xxxx sales". Can anyone demonstrate that any new car had any appreciable change in some other makes sales numbers. It just doesn't happen - or if it does it's probably mainly due to the other cars' faults. Sales numbers for vehicles just don't change that rapidly and certainly not because of other makes. By all the bashing the 5 series has taken you would have thought BMW should just discontinue it - the sales numbers have hardly changed.

The same will be for the IS. You think the 10K/month 3 series sales will be influenced by this car or by any car that much? I highly doubt it. The main thing that will influence those numbers is the acceptance or lack thereof of the redesign (of the 3 series) next year. You can have the next IS beat the 3 series in every category and BMW will still sell 10K/month. Yes, the IS' numbers might go up some, but BMWs number won't go down - nor will the TSXs'.

TOV put something on their "model release matrix" http://www.vtec.net/modelmatrix/ showing the TSX having 240 for 06. It was just pure speculation but alot of people get confused by it.

Looks Mazda-ish, but looks a bit more classy. I personally like it. With two engine options (I was wishing for more in the lines of a four and a six, maybe 8 in the performance version).

Yea, this isn't a TSX threat, this is going after the 3 series directly, no doubt about it. I'm sure the Germans are looking at this in great detail.

I'm pretty sure, sedan-wise, the ES is their best volume seller. If they can just give a nice exterior, those should fly off the lot like hotcakes. The interior is a beaut, that's for sure. Plus, I'm sure they turn a nice profit since the ES shares so much Camry components.

I guess I just listen to my friends at the factory to much. And since I have heard it from more than one source. I figure there is some truth to it.

Hey, if its happening then but it isn't exactly "common knowledge"

Any idea how they plan to make that extra power? IMA? Turbo? Hemi?

Keep us posted.
