TL on Motorweek TV

This morning's Motorweek TV show (on PBS stations in the US) gives a summary introduction to the Acura TL. Motorweek's wsa generally favorable.

From what I saw on the show, two things stand out--negatively--style-wise from my view:

- The rear side door shape reminds the viewer of the car's US domestic model Accord origins. (It's one thing I don't like about the US Accord.)

- The chrome-like material surrounding the front grill stands out too much. Maybe it was the sun reflecting on it that exaggerated the chrome surround, but in the film it looked overstated.

I agree about the chrome grill. I considered black as well as silver as an exterior color, but ultimately chose silver (in part) because the chrome doesn't jump out at you.

Not to nitpick, but the grill on the TL is not actually chrome. The grill as well as the trim above the rear license plate area are both satin silver. Acura has changed the exterior chrome trim on the MDX to satin silver as well for the '04 model year. Maybe this is the latest trend?? I know the only other vehicle I have personally seen with this type of trim is the new Porsche Cayenne.

Yeh, that's why I indicated "chrome-like". Gosh, when was the last time a car had authentic metal chrome on it?

Well, to me "chrome-like" would mean a highly reflective silver colored surface, not a satin or matte type silver finish. I never meant to imply that you stated the grill was authentic chrome. I merely wanted to clarify the type of silver finish used on the new TL's grill which is not "chrome-like" IMO.

As for the rear door shape....how do you feel they are alike? To my eye they seem quite different.

On a side note, I definitely love how the TL has pronounced wheel wells unlike the Accord.

Aluminum

The grill and the trunk trim look much like the aluminum trims inside the car. At least that's what it seems judging from the online photos.

I think the center-stacks are similar.
