I saw the making of this concept on TLC tonight. It was good seeing Carroll Shelby so satisfied at the outcome.
He's 81 & drove that car like his lil biotch...doing donuts, etc.

Ford Shelby Cobra
How Do You Top The Old Cobra? Carroll Shelby Lights The Tires on Ford's 605-HP V10 Concept - By PETE LYONS
Some excerpts:
"...this neo-Cobra could be on sale by mid-2006. Target price is "under $100,000." Whether or not the sensational 605-hp V10 could be part of the package at that price point is not yet decided. "
"Other carryovers include Ford's powered rack-and-pinion steering, the Focus-based steering col, and the immensely powerful Brembo brakes."
"Power and torque ratings are 605 hp at 6750 rpm and 501 lb-ft at 5500 rpm. For a lower center of gravity, the engine is dry-sumped like that in the Ford GT."
"Even though it's topless, the new Cobra's chassis is immensely stiff. It's actually almost twice as resistant to bending as the production Ford GT, while at 10,060 lb-ft per degree, the torsional rigidity comes close to the GT's 11,928."
"Despite its greater power, Theodore doesn't expect the roadster to be as fast as the GT coupe-despite the 267 mph listed as theoretical top speed! The drag figure is a whopping 0.480, according to Ford's computer."

The resistance on the car from aero drag increases exponentially in relation to the speed (e.g. mph). From the above, it's easy to understand why Cd affects the actual top speed so much.
Also, another reason why F1 cars go up to 230-250 mph. Think about it, they weigh 500kg, they make 750-900 HP. They should be able to reach 300+ mph with those numbers. They have terrible Cd mainly due to the "exposed wheel" design which is mandatory.

More voluptuous: Ford sending Shelby Cobra concept back for design tuneup - - By AMY WILSON | Automotive News - - Source: Autoweek
Ford Motor Co. is sending its Shelby Cobra concept car back to the shop for a design tuneup.
The sports car, which debuted at the Detroit auto show this year, shares many parts with the Ford GT. It could readily be put into production, said Phil Martens, Ford group vice president of product creation.
But the concept's styling needs work, he said. "It doesn't grab my soul," Martens says. "It has to be as emotional as the GT."
J Mays, Ford group vice president of design, is putting an emotional charge into the Shelby Cobra. Some of the curves of the original 1960s Shelby Cobra will appear in the modern version, although Mays says the styling won't be retro.
"We're going to make it slightly more voluptuous," Mays said.
Executives haven't decided to produce the Shelby Cobra, even with a new look in the works. But its production would amortize the tooling and investment Ford has made in the GT, which is expected to have a limited run beginning this summer.
Some Ford officials have hinted that the Shelby Cobra could succeed the GT as a pricey halo vehicle. A production vehicle would not have the same lines as the Detroit show car.
Mays said he's glad that Ford designers opted for a more technical look for the car in the Detroit show. Ford worked closely with Cobra originator Carroll Shelby to develop the Detroit concept.
"We knew the road we were going down was going to be a little controversial," Mays said. "But we wanted to make sure we didn't roll old Carroll out onto the stage and have everyone go: 'Oh, hey, it's a replica.' "

Shelby: Cobra Venom news
From Worldcarfans...
Could we see a revival of the legendary roadster? Designer Jamie Martin would like to think so with a group of very nice renderings of the AC Cobra's spiritual successor – the Cobra Venom V8. Jamie envisions a model focused on driver responsiveness powered by a Ford V8 Block capable of propelling the Venom from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds and reaching a maximum speed of 214mph.

2014 Shelby Cobra 50th Anniversary
Press release...
The Shelby Cobra took the sports car world by storm when it was introduced in 1962. Shelby American took the AC “Ace” chassis, inserted a small block Ford engine and re-engineered the car to handle the additional power. On the track, the Cobra defeated sports cars from Jaguar, Chevrolet, Porsche, and others. Fact is, CSX2000 is the first Shelby Cobra ever built and quite possibly the most valuable American sports car in the world today. We honor this icon with a 50th Anniversary Limited Edition CSX8000-series Cobra. Only 50 vehicles will be produced. Exclusive CSX serial numbers have been reserved, from 8950 though 8999.
