I love that the 900/9-3s evolve but never lose their unique Saab appeal.

Unfortunately I think it'll be too underpowered as usual for Saab. Also, they've got to make rwd or awd cars if possible. I think rwd cars are out of the question for them, because they live in colder climates.

Saab Mentions 9-3 Competitors

Haven't seen this posted here so here goes:

G. Chambers Williams III: Saab's sleek sedan

It's a San Antonio, Texas press article about Saab and their new 9-3. Lists the TSX as one of its competitors.

With prices beginning about $26,000 and running into the upper $30,000s, the 9-3 sport sedan competes against the Infiniti G35, Acura TSX and 3.2TL, Lexus ES 300 and IS 300, BMW 3-series, Audi A4 and Volvo S60, among others.
quite a range there

Yep. I have chosen the 9-3 over the TSX and the others cars on the list except for the ES300 (yuck).

I think the 9-3 is a great looking car, but I think GM has not helped the brand.

Nice choice. Hard to go wrong in this segment. But I'm curious why you feel the 9-3 was better for you?

Well, our good buddy Chambers Williams the III is still unfortunately employed. Not sure if anyone here is aware but he wrote and incredibly negative and uninformed article about the TSX a while ago. He was bombarded with e mails from members of this community and had to admit his mistakes. He'll never diss Acura's again without first knowing the facts.

Don't be too hard on him domn...he's just scared of the way the TSX is eating away at his customer base!

Basically, I enjoyed the torquey experience that the 9-3 turbo offers. It pulls off the line like a champ (even with auto tranny). The TSX with Auto tranny just didn't feel the same way. The ride is a little harsh in the 9-3 but nothing abnormally so as compared to my CL-S. Performance-wise, I was really impressed with the braking ability of the 9-3 which btw has been given rave reviews by the media. I unlike others here, am not a slave to the TSX's interior - I happen to like the interior of the 9-3. I especially like the well bolstered seats that the Vector offers. No offense here, but the interior of the TSX (as nice as it is) is just more of the same than what I am used to from Acura. I just want something different the next time around.

Also the trunk on the 9-3 is cavernous (15.0 cubic ft)! Since this is my primary (and only) car, trunk space is important, especially for a car in this size class. If it wasn't important to me, I would be putting in my order for a G35 Coupe!

I think the 9-3 is a great looking car, but I think GM has not helped the brand.
On the contrary, I think GM has helped the brand tremendously. If GM hasn't helped, then how do you accound for the much improved reliability and quality over many of the older models? In addition, the availability of GM funds has produced a great alternative in the sports sedan market and IMHO is still a well-kept secret (even though you see tons of 9-3 commericals on TV).

You mean the 9-3 VECTOR will be your next car, not the Aero as they no longer make it. Did you even look at the Saabs????
Dude, I do my homework and have looked at Saabs, Acura, Audi, Infiniti, and MB.

FYI - starting with the '04 models, the Vector name will be replaced with the Aero. Apparently, some kit-car company had licensed the name and Saab decided to drop it. It makes sense anyway as the other line (9-5) also uses the same naming nomenclature.

I stand corrected, I was looking at the 03's that said Vector, understood 04's are Aero's like 9-5.

I also looked at the same, along with BMW and Nissan Max (not sure why though)

be honest 93kewl...the only reason you're buying the Saab is because your cousin is a sales manager at the dealership! Now you're trolling the TSX boards trying to defend your reasoning for compromising. :sqnteek:

Ha! I wish my cousin did work at the Saab dealership! Actually, he works for Volvo! I briefly considered an S-60R but even at dealer cost (real dealer cost - not invoice), it was out of my price range.

Heck, the 9-3 is sure as heck no compromise. As a matter of fact, if I bought right now, I could probably pick up for very low 30's. Nice! It has everything that the TSX has and more!

Oh, and as for "hanging" here, this is the place to get all that new '04 TL love, which is still hanging in there for me.

lol... don't you get sick of defending the 9-3 in this site? I really like the Saab as well but I preferred the interior on the TSX, but you're definetely gettin a nice car if you decide to stick with it. Personally, I think that 9-3 looks better than the new TL.

I've narrowed it down to the TSX, the 9-3, or the '04 TL. My only concern with the 9-3 is that I've read on some Saab community websites complaints about rattles and mechanical problems. I'm curious if you had any similar concerns, and how you got comfortable with the 9-3.

lol yes I am high, but we gotta make him feel somewhat good about himself when he's promotin the hell out of that Saab on this Acura site.... but yeah I really do like the 9-3 in black (which so far looks better than the TL in the colors we have seen so far)

I've read on some Saab community websites complaints about rattles and mechanical problems
Husker,

I really did my homework on this. Don't worry about the rattles. Mostly every car line in this segment, with the exception of MB and BMW has them. Do a search on rattles for the TSX here and you'll find just as many people complain about them as on the Saab forums. As with any car, some people get 'em and some people don't.

As for mechanical problems, the 9-3 is a first-year redesign. Most of the problems experienced by people have been software related. The 9-3 is technically one of the most advanced cars in the segment, especially with it's profiler system which allows you to customize various settings of the car. To Saab's credit, they have corrected many of the problems experienced by buyers of the early production line models. Most of these are software patches. The only real mechanical problem I have seen is the brakes generating alot of dust. Saab now has replaced the pads with different ones that don't generate dust.

Of course, I have similiar concerns about the car but I have watched the forums carefully and see that most of the issues that people have experience have already been taken care of. That's why I think I am in a good position to buy an '03 (later production line model) or an '04.

I've narrowed it down to the TSX, the 9-3, or the '04 TL
Basically, I have eliminated the TSX and am now down to the 9-3 with the '04 TL as the "Darkhorse" (only because I haven't seen it in person and haven't t-drove one yet). Hope this helps!

Whatever you decide, the most important thing is to ENJOY your car!

Looks are subjective. I'll reserve judgement on which looks better until I see a TL in person. The Saab looks very nice. The only time I can see someone being high is when they say the Aztek looks good, or if they're driving an Aztek.
