I liked the R32 and R33's looks better. The R34 looked too big.

 

The pictures of the car look hideous. If this car looks like that, it wont hold a candle to the R34. The VQ is a very potent motor. With forged internals and better flowing heads, it can make tons of power and handle lots of boost. If i was in charge of nissan i would have kept the old Skyline motor. But Cosworth is known for building awesome motors. If they are working on the VQ, i can expect great things as far as engine performance and durability.

 

I agree with you. I have great hopes for this eninge and this car.

 

I like the R34 best so far, but it looked like a charging rhino. So very aggresive and mean looking. I bet the new one is going to be sexy.

 

Now THAT is hot. Like a M and G coupe mix, hehe...

 

I saw a artical on Car & Driver about the GTR, and it had some "spy picture" it looks like a G35 with a diffrent bumper and wing.... There's a lot of picture out there saying what the GTR will look like, I haven't been impress with any of them, the R34 is still the top dog.... We'll just have to wait a while to see what it looks like.

At the 35th Tokyo Motor Show in 2001, Nissan unveiled the GT-R Concept, confirming that the GT-R legend would be continued into the 21st century. Then, at the 37th Tokyo Motor Show in 2003, Nissan announced the next-generation GT-R would be rolled out in 2007. Now with the launch of the production model just two years away, the development of the new GT-R has moved ahead again with the reveal of the GT-R PROTO.

Ultimate driving pleasure

In essence, driving pleasure means that a car responds faithfully to the driver's wishes and performs precisely as expected. Successive generations of the GT-R have consistently pursued this vision of ultimate driving pleasure. Whether on the road or the racetrack, the GT-R has always represented ultimate performance combined with handling qualities that stay faithful to the driver’s wishes, in all conditions. As a result, the GT-R has built a reputation that extends far beyond just its loyal owner base.

Exterior design: pure performance

The design of the GT-R PROTO expresses pure GT-R heritage, coming from the first model PGC10 (1969) through R34 (1999), in a new and expressive form.

From its original roots as a pure-bred Japanese performance car, the new GT-R will now be a car sold globally, recognising its ability to compete with the very best in the world. For the first time in its history, the new GT-R will be designed as a specific body-style, and not derived from a sedan.

The design language of the GT-R PROTO is expressed by a distinctive body-style that communicates pure performance and functionality. The form of the GT-R PROTO instantly expresses its purpose and potential, but in a way that is unique to this iconic car.

At the front end, the single centre air intake is designed to optimise airflow and to strongly link the identity of the GT-R from R34 to GT-R Concept (2001). Front fenders are uniquely designed through intensive analysis of the airflow around the tyres and the air vent behind the front fender also optimises aerodynamics. The sides of the body are sculptured towards the rear fender, expressing the power and dynamic tension of the car.

The overall shape of the body combines solid and smooth surfaces to achieve the look of a well-trained athlete. The unique C-pillar crease is designed for optimum aerodynamics, reflecting the racing DNA of the GT-R.

The rear of the GT-R PROTO is strong and well defined. The signature four ring-shaped tail lamps provide an immediate visual link to previous GT-R models. Four large-bore exhaust pipes complete the purposeful look, which could only be that of a pure GT-R.

The GT-R PROTO provides for the first time a clear indication of the final design direction for the production model to be launched in 2007, the first all-new GT-R in eight years.

 

As we've seen with most of nissans concepts, the production model is very close to the prototype drawings. Cant wait to see this thing!

I love Nissan/Infiniti, but this is taking waayy to long to come to market.

 

i dont think they're taking long at all...the Z and G was building up their reputation in the U.S...now that they're known for performance, the GTR will be like the icing on the cake.

if the GTR came out this yr or earlier, the Z and G will be in need of a redesign b4 the GTR, making them step on the GTR's toes...i think introducing the GTR during the redesign of the Z and G is a good idea......kinda builds up momentum and expectations.....just hope nissan gets it right

Oddly enough, nissan contacted the administrator on my350z to remove the sketches of the GT-R proto. Nissan says no pics til the 9th. Kinda weird if you ask me

 

I just dont know why these jap companies think that the US market would not support these fine automobiles. Look how the STI and EVO 8 are doing...BRING US THE DAMN GT-R....
And as a nissan, not an infiniti

 

What was your opinion on it's looks?

 

My money's on Infiniti. Nissan will conclude that with the better warranty, dealer experience, and lux brand, the GTR will have a better chance of success as an Infiniti; especially with a price tag north of $55K.

This is what the official concept sketch looks like. Nissan was supposed build on the looks of the picture above.....at least i think so.

Old or not, the concept car from old shares a lot of cues with these latest sketches and I'm sure once these sketches are shown in real car form they will resemble the old concept even more because it would seem the sheet metal in the sketches would be almost too expensive to build. The concept car was probably tuned up a bit based off criticisms from the press/consumers.

Yes, your actually right. They built upon the previous concept. One thing that is different is that this new concept has its own platform. Obviously nissan is not going cheap on this car. The concept drawings share some cues from the previous concept but it obviously got alot better.
